Car: 1991 Camaro RS
Engine: Was 305 LO3 TBI, now carbed 355
Transmission: Auto
Fuel Pressure Regulator Question
I'm currently in the process of swapping my old LO3 out for a carbed 350 and was looking at FPR's for the job. I read the EFI to carb tech article and two FPR's are suggested. I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the BG Fuel System one (Summit Pt. # BGI-171021) and the Mallory one (Summit Pt. # MAA-4309). There's a $5 or so price difference, but I was just wondering what the difference was and if it matters which one I should get. Thanks in advance!

its a fuel pressure regulator. unless your runnin nos or something, just get oen that works. Why pay 80 bucks for one, thats a bit crazy if you ask me. For racing sure, street.....not something I'd do.

Unfortunately you have to spend the $80 if you are using the stock in tank pump, a regular 2 or 3 port style doesn't work well. a return style is a must. From personal experience, we had some pressure creep troubles with a BG unit on a truck once. Switching to the Mallory 4309 cured the problem. but that deosn't mean BG makes a bad product, maybe we just got a bad one...

i know a few guys that are running the stock in tank pump with just a 20 buck AFPR and its workin just fine. Why the 80 dollar one/ there some site or somethin someone can point me to for details? cheers

If they are running a $20 afpr, they should be proud. I tried a Holley 3 port for $25, with one outlet going to the carb and the other to the factory return line. it wouldn't build pressure unless you restricted the return line, and once we did that it wouldn't stay stable. I'd love to know how they did it...

well if thats the case why the hell do they even make the 20 dollar ones? don't make no sense! So what I HAVE to use the more expensive one to not have this thing **** up on me? oooh great....
I don't know how they did it. Maybe they do in fact have the external pump, not in the tank. Maybe I should look, but I thought they had it stock.
