threading the frame might not be a great idea, it isn't that thick after all so there won't be many threads. many people will get the inner nut tack welded to the frame, but if you are only doing it one time might as well fight it out and put the nuts back on. many of us have changed them without droppin the a-arms.

Dropping the a-arms is by far the easiest way to get to the mounts. Put a jack under the a-arm, take out the two pivot point bolts, drop the arm down and pull the spring out. All the room you need to get to the bolts holding the mounts on.

If you have two people it doesnt take that long. I can tell you from personal experience that they go on a lot easier than they come off. If you use a 15mm wrench on the bottom one on each side it works like a charm, but there is a catch. Heat up the boxed end of the wrench, and bend it so that when you stick it into the frame, it sits flat against where the bolt goes. If you use a swivel and a 15mm socket for the top ones with a bout 15 inches of extension, they will be on in less than 1/2 an hour. Considerably easier than selling your car and buying a v8 one. But that does seem to be the consensus on this board. Seems to me like most people here probably never owned a car older than a third gen, or have worked on stuff very much.

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo, shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
I think selling your car instead of doing motor mounts is stupid. v6 to v8 really has nothing to do with it. What if you already had a v8 and the mounts went bad, you'd still be in the same boat your in now. Would you sell your car because the motor mounts went bad? Of course not. Problem with these cars is the are not the easiest to work on. But then again they are not the hardest either.

Thank you very much. Its about time some one else said it too. There was a thread a while back where someone threw a fit that he couldnt change his sparkplugs, and it was a pain to do anything on HIS car so he was going to get rid of the POS. All I could think was, man, there are how many of us who deal with that on a daily basis. What a whiner. Course, junkie, I'm not knowcking you, dont think that. I converted my v6 to a v8, and there were definately times while we were working that I was thinking, Man, why didnt i just buy a V8 car? But, it was my car, and I like it.

Ill be their soon, i bought a v8 motor with trans, its a tpi motor but i might convert it to carb. My car has the crappy 2.8 in it now, so soon ill be dealing with the mounts.
Wouldnt it be easier to drill out the old bolt? In my case im not gonna reuse anything from the old mount anyway.

Really, if you take a cheap wrench and look at the angle it needs to be bent to, and do it that way, and use the swivel and extensions, then have someone else get the bolts from the top with an impact, they can be changed in an hour. no problem. Took me about 1hr45mins, but we had to go to the partstore, and figure out to bend the wrench.

I like that, sounds exactly like me. I'll take on anything that gets in my way, except a transmission.

A lot of people talk a lot of trash on it, its a pretty good intake. No its not a victor Jr, but it also costs less than 1/2 a victor Jr. Bottom line is, it runs good, and gets great upper RPM power. Its a good intake.
