3" crush bent or 2 1/2" mandrel?
Anyone know if a 3" crush bent pipe would flow about the same as a 2 1/2" mandrel bent?
I'm thinkin that might be a cheaper route. It's for a V6, by the way.

I would go with mandrel 2.5". It would keep gas velocity constant vs using 3" with crush bends that would disrupt flow.
3" mandrel bent pipe would not help on a V-6 either. In fact it may hurt your torque because the gas velocities would be lower.

with the v6 i would be weary of the 2.5" mandrel bent pipe... a 2.5 mandrel would be good for a v8 pushin 300-350hp your v6 is no where near that. unless u throw a turbo then the 2.5 maybe even a 3" system. i would go if u really wanted to with a 2 1/4 mandrel system and a nice muffler. that will keep the velocities up and give u the tone as well. u could pick up sum hp with the 2 1/4 system, the 2.5 u will prob lose power

I would never go 3" mandrel bent, don't worry about that one.
But I can't really find any aftermarket exhaust for this Bird that is below 2 1/2" and is mandrel bent. And they guy I know here who will give me a reasonable price doesn't have a mandrel bender. I'm startin to think I'll just go with a custom y-pipe to get that crappy 90* angle out of there and just buy a 2 1/2" mandrel bent intermediate pipe, so I should still keep most of my torque with the backpressure from the stock exit pipes and the crush bent y-pipe.

yea i would say that the 2 1/2 mandrel would be better than the crushed 3"... but i still thiink the 2 1/2 mandrel would be too much for the v6. u could see if he could crush bend some 2 1/2" for the y pipe and maybe the catback as well that way it'll prob be 2-2 1/4" at some points to help keep the velocities up, or u could just get some 2 1/4 mandrel bends and some straight pipe and make your own not that hard to do especially the catback

I'de like to see someone prove that a 3in crush bend flows worse than a 2.5in mandrel bend. Maybe the stupid bends with the ridges that come on factory setups but a regular crush bend shouldn't be that bad. I should go out and cut one of my tail pipes that're crush bent at the bend and see how big the inside of that pipe still is.

without a doubt 2 1/2" mandral bent. You will not lose any power with it. You might lose a little low end torque but when I put my exhaust on I couldn't feel any loss; and besides you will pick up more in the top end than you will lose down low.
