My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

like the title says i made up my own Magnaflow catback bye using magnaflows 3" in and 2.5" out crossflow muffler (part# 12267) and jegs brand catback exhaust (part# 13417).
muffler $92.99

catback $229.99
i did not want to buy a brand new 4th gen catback and have to fab it up to fit. as for right now i did not have the money or the time to do the headers on the car yet so i wanted an exhaust that would bolt up to the stock crappy 2 1/4 cat that came on the 90-92 305s perfectly for right now.

the jegs exhaust has a suprisingly nice 3" mandrel bent I-Pipe that necks down to 2.5 right at the end so it can hook up to the stock exhaust and very easily hook up a 3" cat at a later date. all the hangers are in the right spots also. it fits very nice with no rattles. (If you want 3" all the way to a 3" cat use part#30415 )

it also comes with 2 very nice mandrel bent 2.5" tail pipes that are bent up very well and in the right spots and the right kind of hanger on the driver tailpipe thats adjustable so it sits how you want it.

the only modification i had to make to the system is to cut down the driver side tail pipe where it goes into the muffler 2"s because the muffler is a little different size then the one that comes with the system. did this to even out the tips on the car

i also had to move the driver side tail pipe hanger (the one on the body) over a little bit to match up to where the onle on the tail pipe sits(again because the muffler is a little different size, distance between the pipes is less)

i still have to cut the tips back to where i want them so i can pit on my stainless tips i got

and thats it...sound good but still quite at idle(still have the cat) but i love it and sounds great when ya get on it and deffinatly added some good power that you can feel(going from stock 2 1/4 crimp bend rusted out exhaust)

i wanted the magnaflow because i have the same muffler on my 2002 with longtubes and no cat and i love it

Re: My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

if you go on summit dynomax sells 3" i pipes the long one and the one that goes over the axle seperate also they sell both tailpipes in 2.5" i was looking the other day at it for a friend. So for about 389 you can buy all the pipes you need direct fit and the magnaflow muffler. Ill make a post with all the part numbers to build it yourself

Re: My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

sounds great...exactly what i wanted
at idle its a little on the quite side but has a really nice and mean tone. once you get on it it open up and roars. interior sound is very low i have to open the windows to really hear it loud. this is my daily driver so i really did not want the iritating flowmaster sound all the time...magnaflows sound is clean and flows much more then the flowmaster...definatly flet a big difference in power

i have magnaflow on my 2002 ws6 but that car has full lengths, no cats, big cam so it sounds like a nascar with the same muffler and sounds really awesome.

91 i was looking at getting the dynomax ipipe and tail pipes but the way i look at it the jegs system was cheaper then going with the dynomax and it was a complete set and it came with clamps and a muffler...i just sold the muffler from the jegs system for 30 bucks so what the whole system cost me now only 292.98!!!

i did spend 50 extra bucks that i did not "need" to on the jegs stainless band clamps but its money well spent because they seal really well and you can adjust or remove things later very easily
also spent 50 bucks on some nice stainless 3.5 inch slash tips from hooker
so the money saved by going with the jegs system i was able to get some other goodies

well i'm gonna take a page right out of ur book,if u don't mind. i am goin to get hkr 2055's and i was gonna get their c/b. that is until i saw ur thread. i have been trying to find the sound i want and i was kind of there, but i felt like i was settling.
i then went on u-tube and searched for sound clips as i always do when i think of annother exhaust that might interest me. O.M.G. i found this one here.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi40rYz2lPU i can tell that he has other mods,be u can get an idea of what it will sound like when i do my complete exhaust.
i wanted something that was very deep and had a mean A$$ growl w/o being raspy. these are it. allthough i'm not sure what muffler that sound clip is,it must be the one u have b/c thats the only muffler magnaflow is showing for our cars.

i definately want this settup. i don't care if i pay more for it than the hkr c/b. i want this sound commin out of the A$$ of my ride.lol.
so thanks again for this awesome idea.
jay.

do u have any sound clips yet. if not when can u get them??

Re: My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

glad you like my set up...it is pretty sweet setup considering magnaflow does not make a cat back for us which is very stupid

ya his car sounds bad ***...i would like to get some sound clips of my 90 with the magnaflow but i do have a few of my 2002 with the same muffler but no cats, longtubes and a cam...sounds crazy

my 90 is pretty quite until you really get on it...90 formulas only came with the 2 1/4" y-pipe and cat which is making my car extra quite...i cant wait untill i get some shorties and replace the cat with a bullet muffler...i dont mant my evey day driver to be to loud haha

Re: My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

fvkin awesome.lmao.
it sounds real nice bro.

i ordered an slp test pipe b/c the flange on my cat is leaking and i don't feel like fvkin with it,so its coming out. my 84 has the l69 with a 2.75" i-pipe and a fact 3.73 disc break rearend. its why i bought it.

so chances are that i will be getting the jegs c/b faster than the hkr-2055's,thanks again to u.

did the muffler get louder as it broke in. does it even have a break in period?

I dont think you will ever get a gen1 SBC to sound like that LS1. They are totally different animals.

You can get it to sound mean though. Those clips kinda remind me of what the SLP loudmouth sounds like.

were not talkin about the car he listed the clips for,we are talkin about a 3rd gen (not 1gen,they were 1967-69). and i also have to disagree with u on the slp thing too. slp sounds like a UPS truck. it has no where near the thoatyness of a muffler, even that muffler is straight through.
but hey thats just my opinion.

Mine sounds similar to that one. I used the LT1 setup.

I need to get some better clips this spring. I had the Flowmaster setup on my 87 IROC, and it sounds good, but I wanted something different with this car.

Re: My new Magnaflow and Jegs catback system

How about this...

I came across a lightly used 93-97 stainless Magnaflow catback I-pipe, and muffler from one guy for $100. 2 weeks later I came across some brand new stainless tips for the same magnaflow system from another guy for another $100. I ended up with a full stainless catback for roughly $250 installed. Damn I got lucky

This past week I installed a MAC Stock replacement Y-pipe 48692, and the cat delete pipe 48792 to match up to the Magnaflow. The MAC pieces fit very well and I'm quit happy with the sound, fit, and quality of the entire system together. Now when emissions time comes I can just swap out the MAC stuff for the factory stuff, pass emissions and go right back to the MAC Y. It worked out really well.

The Magnaflow sounds excellent without the cat. No drone to speak of. It blows the blowmaster crap I had on my Camaro away.

i saw that on their site. its for for 3rd gens but its 567. or something like that.
i still say putting one together ur self from jegs or summit is better,(imo) but the one magnaflow is stainless. but mine will never see a wet road so stainless is not worth it to me.

Mine will never intentionally see wet roads lol but I tend to drive all over so sometimes it's unavoidable. I figured, do stainless and be done with it.
However, nice aluminized pipe will last a good long time.

The thirdgen Magnaflow setup will sell for less than the advertised $560.
The LT1 is listed at $517 on their site, Summit sells it for $407... so probably in the $450 range.

Very nice set-up. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to steal the idea
Do you have the muffler cross flowing, or are the tail pipes on the same side?
