exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
the vid description explains why and how i got this. long story short, got it running very crapily last year, threw on a cheapo muffler and a hunk of pipe just to get by without getting pulled over in the city but now the car is running well...and i want a better exhaust.

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
furthermore, with the setup pictured above, i think i'd like to just try and swap out the muffler instead of just investing in a sound engineered [and expensive] catback.
i think the actual reason my exhaust sounds so goofy is because of that muffler. it's like a generic flowmaster...but was sitting around the shop. it's just a single chamber open piece of crap.
does my logic make sense? in that i can totally rid of that raspy-ness by putting in a nicer muffler? or am i wrong and it the way the 3inch was ran that's causes it to be so raspy?

or....is this the issue? is this thing all piped wrong? lol
i remember the dude saying it didn't matter. the only way i could see it not mattering if the muffler is just hollow. lol.

Well, I believe that the top input on the right side is the outlet and the bottom input is where your exhaust enters into the muffler.

that's what i'm thinking. in "in" should be the solo nipple on the muffler, while the two on the right should be the "outs"...which isn't my case.

I believe what Delovont is saying is that the connections on the right need to be swapped.

there should have been a arrow or labels on it, i have a flowmaster, and without a cat it sounds just as raspy!

hard to tell what it sounds like backed in a garage. But to me the vid sounds pretty good.

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
as long as that is a 80 series muffler it is piped correctly.
here is a cutaway.
the outlets are directly across from each other and the inlet is offset.
I can't watch the video at work though..

I know I have the same muffler, I hollowed it out just to see what it sounds like, and it sounded exactly the same. I was very surprised, but I really like the sound of a 3in cherry bomb glasspack, and I also like the sound of the super 44.

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
finally saw the video, that sounds like a new Flowmaster 80 series to me. It'll change tone after you get some carbon buildup in it.

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
it's too loud to be an 80 series...also, it's a generic muffler, not a flowmaster.

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
I remember a local shop trying to sell me a "V Force" for mine about 8 years ago, same internal design as an 80 series.
Have you watched some other videos on youtube to see if they sound like yours?

here's an updated vid...the exhaust sounds alright (nice and mean) under 2500 and while idling. but when sustaining rpms anywhere above that, it sounds like a civic with a coffee can muffler. i used a real digital camcorder for this, and it still isn't catching all of the sound...but yea, that poppy noise is what bothers me...(not referring to the backfire pops...that's badass)...

Re: exhaust sucks...(vid inside)
don't wory about offending me. the title of this thread is "exhaust sucks". i totally think it's just a hollow muffler looking thing. i am gonna have them swap the muffler out, and see what it sounds like then...before i spend like a grand on that gmmg catback exhaust i want. a muffler swap will be less than $100 if i bring the muffler in.
