Looks like a nice kit. 2.5in is a bit small though. A 3in kit would allow you plenty of room to grow.

2.5 will more than handle what most everyone here does to their cars.

As I said when i provided the info to skelitor, for $122 you don't even debate it or post "is it a good deal" or how does it sound threads.

Deals like that are no-brainers. You either do it and don't look back, or overanalyze it to death and miss the deal. As you get older you won't spend as much time worrying about "the right sound" or hemming and hawing when a good deal is in front of you. Your experience will guide you to react and take advantage of good deals when you find them.

We're talking $122 final delivered cost for a 2 1/2 inch cat back system.

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

There was a $75 rebate on this product last year, and I snagged the cat back system for like $130 shipped from Summit. It's very quiet. Even at $130 for a new cat back system, I'm not happy with it. My $0.02

Looks like the $75 rebate is still active

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

While I don't know if the rest of the system is on my car is Dynomax (installed by previous owner) the muffler is and I like the sound it makes.

Looking at the link you provided, for a brand name system for a little over 200 bucks with free shipping, I wouldn't question it either. My only concern would be if your car is a year round driver which would include snow. Then, how good it holds up to wet salt etc. would be a factor. My opinion is based on my region and the driving I do; May to early November in dry weather only.

$75 rebate thus $127 total cost shipped to your door. I also provided the OP a $10 coupon so his total cost would be $117

This exhuast kit, or at least the version that fits a 5.0 camaro, is actually a 2.5" Dual, not a single. Huh.

Dual exit, yes.
One pipe goes into the muffler, two tailpipes coming out.

Also the picture is wrong. It is supposed to be dual. But whatever. I will be fine so long as it all fits.

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

For me the Dynomax super turbo cat back in 2,5" was a no brainer. My original (stock, fitted in 1989) exhaust fell apart. Praying, spittle and hope held it together untill the Dynomax was in my mailbox.

With 2,5" it´s appropriately sized for a stock or slightly modified (up to about 250-275 HP) 305 TBI. You´ll have to upgrade your fuel delivery system before running out of exhaust.

I like how quiet the exhaust is. It has a nice exhaust note, a slight rumble compared to the stock equipment, and the volume could pass for stock.

I payed $450 shipped, but with that it was still the most affordable exhaust on this side of the pond. If I could have the set for less then $150, and would be looking for a stock replacement for a near stock engine I´d pick one up right away.

Another plus, the mid section is one piece. It is als nicely bent. Not high quality like some of the $1000 aftermarket ones (Borla) but good value fr the money.

Now on to the downsides:
-First surface rust appeared within 3 weeks, but only on the tailpipes. The mid section and muffler are perfectly clean.
-The included clamps are crap. Best get some good quality replacements. They can be picked up cheap anyways.
-Now I wish I had painted the exhaust in a flat grey. Might still do so when I find the time to take it off.

Picture looks right to me. There are two tailpipes in the picture, just above the long (single) intermediate pipe. This isn't a true dual exhaust system like you would find on a classic muscle car; this is the type of system that came from the factory on your third gen car. Single cat (not included, of course), single intermediate pipe, single muffler, two tailpipes from that single muffler.

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

You don´t have to.
Up to approx. 230 HP your stock fuel delivery will do just fine.

What I wanted to say is that a 2,5" exhaust will be large enough not to restrict your engine in breathing. As soon as a 2,5" exhaust becomes a restriction in your setup, you´ll have other worries then just the exhaust.

A 2,5" exhaust will transport (don´t have the exact volume at hand, but I did the math a while back) exhaust gasses equal to what a 305 cid engine exits at roughly 5500 rpm.

One way to gain N/A power is by revving the engine higher and introduce more fuel and air into the engine (air comes with the RPM yu just have to get it in the engine). Going by these numbers, the 2,5" exhaust will become a restriction from about 250 HP onwards, which also is the performance where your stock fuel delivery no longer suffises.

In short, a 3" exhaust will make sense when you also upgrade your fuel pump, heads, cam, fuel pressure regulator (275HP needs about 17,5 PSI, 300 HP about 19 PSI, your stock FPR stops at about 15 PSI) and ECM. If you´re not planning any of this for the next few years, take the 2,5" exhaust. It will perfectly suite your application.

I am gonna swap out for a 350hp 350 later, but this should suit my needs till then. It's so cheap after all. No need to worry if it's good for a 350 because if i do a full engine swap I'll want something better anyway

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

In that case, do give some thought in headers. You could re-use them on a 350 later on, and with Y-pipe they are quite a bit more expensive then the cat-back.

That means that 2460HKR + Y-pipe + $60 = 2055HKR, and 2055HKR has a 3" Y-pipe which you will need for the 350 so 3" > 2,5", thus 2055HKR > 2460HKR as far as the available Y-pipe for each set is concerned.

2055 Headers are among the best shorties out there, they are also emissions compliant so they are legal in all 50 states.

I have them on my LT1, and I had them on my L98. They're holding me back now, but not by much. Got a set of 2210 Long Tubes because soon I'll have a fairly beastly street car.

Re: Dynomax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust. Looking to get this. Is it worth it?

I just got the 2.5 dynomax catback with a super turbo. For the money it was a great deal. I have well under 400 dollars in the exhaust. On this site you will find 2 types of car guys and gals, those that think anybody building a 305 is an idiot and those that think any exhaust system smaller than 3.0 is a waste. Lets be honest for a minute, most regular builders have a small budget to work with so getting a good system compaired to a top of the line kit is a real no brainer. keep in mind that most folks here have had their car for many years. so what they have may not be the best for a new guy just getting started. The bottom line is, you go with what you can afford. By the time you are ready to upgrade you should have saved the money.

my car is around 300hp and i noticed no difference from
2 1/2" to the 3" exhaust i have now.

also, the dynomax mufflers dont have the horrid drone that the flowmasters do.

I had the 2.5" Dynomax Super Turbo catback on my IROC for years. It's a very quiet, subtle, quality exhaust. It flows well. I moved up to a single 3" with a straight-through muffler and felt no difference in performance, though I do like the louder tone much more.

I like my exhausts a little louder than the Super Turbo setup, but otherwise I have no complaints. It's a good exhaust.

Just get the 3" so you dont have to do it again later when you go bigger. I picked up a used 3" dynomax catback on here from a local guy for $65. Works great combined with a set of Hooker 2055s and 3" cat.

I got the system. But I am gonna get better headers, Y pipe, and cat. When i swap to a 350hp 350, I'll just redo the whole system. I'm not gonna dump much into this 305 asside from and open air filiment and exhaust.

Except for the fact that if you get the 3" system now you won't have to buy another system again when you upgrade. The 2.5" will be a big restriction for a healthy SBC, the 3" will allow it to breath. Why spend the money twice, the 2.5" system won't perform that much better over the 3" system, it does not justify buying 2 exhaust systems.

Think of it as future proofing. You know your overall plan, just buy the parts accordingly when they won't cause big problems for the current setup.

Why spend the money twice, the 2.5" system won't perform that much better over the 3" system, it does not justify buying 2 exhaust systems.

Think of it as future proofing. You know your overall plan, just buy the parts accordingly when they won't cause big problems for the current setup.

Not new info to me. Thank you though. I only got this cause I needed a new cat back anyway, my old cat back was rusted out, restrictive, and severed at the weld connecting it to the muffler body. And I figure I could get some headers, a Y pipe, and mabey a cat here at TGO for $150-200 or so. Not alot of money for some noice results.

All the more reason to not buy an exhaust twice when its a minor expense. We aren't talking about an $800 exhaust system like a Corsa or Borla using all stainless steel.

I bought my current SLP 2 on the Left for $120 used. Took it to a shop after mounting it and they welded it all up nice and tight for $60.

$180 for a SLP 2otL cat-back. You can also find Hooker and other cat-backs for about that price as well. As long as you can mount it, most shops will be able to weld it up to your cats so its EPA compliant and installed right.

We are here to make our experiences available to other users and spread the knowledge. But I don't want to be pushy so I'll say no more on the subject, its just food for thought.

Yes, I agree completely, but I had this system shipped to my door for $110, and it's bolt on, so no instalation fees, plus it'll look and sound cooler. And when your back tires alone are $220 a pop installed (Need Nitto NT555 285/40-17s), and you have no job, every penny counts. Just sayin' I have weighed my options carefully, and I was planning to do exactly what you suggested untill I found this.

Had that Dynomax system on my last third gen with 2055 headers. Really came to life when I got rid of the cat. Liked it so much, I am putting it on the Iroc I am building now. Good luck.
