Swapping cat-back, removed old, puting in new, cant fit intrmdiate pipe over rear end

I'm swapping out my cat-back exhaust. I removed my old exhaust, but puting in the new system is proving difficult. I can't fit the new intermediate pipe over the rear end.

Anyone have any helpfull tips? Thanks!

hmmm. Its under the car right now. It pretty much the same as the stock one. Comes in one peice, and I have to feed it over the the rear end and the crossmember. Here are some pics of the stock one and how it fits.

Problem is, the new pipe is slightly different in this section here, so it isn't fitting through right. The curve is just a little too severe. This is also a picture of the old one.

unbolt that top bar. i think it's the panhard bar. Also, try to jack the car up as high as you safely can. Be careful. I dealt with this same issue with a dynomax cat back that had a 1 piece i=pipe. good luck with the install.

You want to fit the pipe with the rear end in place? Ha good luck.

Remove the top bar and let the rear hang as low as possible for ease of installation. If I remember right I just removed the top bar, phb and sway bar to make it easy on me.

I can remove and reinstall all 3 in 5 mins, gotta love rust free cars.

Problem is the srews are so long that I can't unscrew the top bar without running into the springs. I'll see if I can do it anyway.

Pry the spring from the bottom to stretch it enough to slide out.

Re: Swapping cat-back, removed old, puting in new, cant fit intrmdiate pipe over rear

Jack up the rear of the car under the center of the rear end
support the rear frame with jackstands
remove lower shock nuts/washers
push shock studs thru mounts
carefully lower rearend (dont go to far, your brake line is bolted to top dr side of rear)
springs may or maynot fall out, set them aside 4 re-install later
take out 2 nuts, bolts on pass side for the upper frame tie bar and lower panhardbar
remove the 3 bolts in the upper frame tie bar on the driver side and set aside 4 re-install later
put your over the axle pipe in and LOOSELY attach all your exhaust piping.

now start to re-install everything in reverse order and tighten the piping (while rearend is jacked into place) so its not going to hit anything
use anti-seize on your bolts when puttting it back together.
You'll be glad you did when your fuel pump goes out.
Buy a factory service manual from helm if you havent yet.
now enjoy a ice cold frosty beervirdge of choice while you cleanup your mess.

I ended up cutting the pipe and then connecting it again after I fed the smaller twisty section over the rear. Looks just fine and is also nice and sturdy
