Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
I have a 87 GTA 350 Auto with Edelcraps on them now, rusted *** Y Pipe, and no options to replace other than spend 300 bucks for the local shop to "build" me a Y Pipe (non mandrel bent). So my question is, if I buy these headers and this Y Pipe:
Hooker Y-Pipes 16767HKR
will this work on my GTA? Has anyone used this before and have any recommendations on install? or is it "plug and play"?

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
Do a search on here for those headers and you will find that most say the headers themselves are very good but the y pipe is a pile of crap. The 2055's seem to get the nod for the best y -pipe and well designed headers. The only downside is they are air tubed headers which i didnt want either. When i was hunting headers the 2460s were at the top of my list but i was going to get a muffler shop to fab me a y pipe that flowed better than the pile they give.
In the end i found a set of NOS SLP 1 3/4 shorties...and opened up a can of worms with my angle plug heads.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
My 16767 came in and I'm connecting it to new Hooker 2464's. Because I believe I have more skills than I really do I am making a video so when it's all back together and there are 3 bolts and a spring left over I can watch the vid and try and figure what I did wrong.
Anyways I'm not sure why some think the Y-pipe is junk so I'm open to hearing. I am close to fitting in the 2464's then seeing how the pipes fits. Comes with a long pipe that removes the cat which I did not expect. Mandrel bent and welds seem good.
Vid to follow in the next day or so.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
Thanks everyone for the replies so far! Always good to have as much information as possible before ordering.
So I ordered the Hooker 2460's, need to drill out the O2 sensor, the bung is just welded onto the outside of the header. I decided on the un-coated ones for a couple of reasons, I want to paint the headers a specific color to match (as best as possible), and also to try out the Rustoleum high heat primer and paint system. The headers showed up yesterday (+1 to Summit for getting me a Saturday FedEx delivery!!!). I need to get the old ones off and eliminate the AIR.
I ordered the SS 3" reducer (isn't actually "reducing since it is 3" in and 3" out), I also ordered some SS mandrel bends to make my own Y Pipe ( I over rate my fabrication skills, but I bought the welder to use and this looks likes a great place to use it). after I get the headers painted and bake the finish on I'll try and post some pics, but with the holidays approaching and other personal commitments probably will be after the first of the year before I finish and post pics.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
Thanks, that's a great idea. I got my headers painted this weekend and baked in the oven. I did take pics, I will try to upload them tonight when I get home from work. I have fabbed up a temporary Y Pipe so I can move forward with the work needed, just my SBFI Injectors, AFPR, and fuel rail installed along with the horns and plenum. I need to hook up the wiring and continue checking for bad spots. I took off the AIR crossover tube and cat tube so it is much cleaner looking. When I get the headers mounted I will post those pics also, they are still downstairs in the basement sitting on the shelf until I can get outside again and install them.

EDIT:
here's the pics...
These are after the blasting cabinet using fine grained glass beads..

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
here's some more... i ended up using the VHT exhaust primer with 3 coats, one light two semi heavy, the VHT exhaust paint (red), same one light and two heavy coats and then after three hours it was time for baking them in the manner stated on the can. I hope to have them in this coming weekend and if all goes well the car back on the road. I will most likely not be able to get it to fire up yet though as I still have to finish some wiring in the engine compartment and also new fuel pump.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
I hate to tell you but I promise that it's going to burn off regardless. EVERY time I've used either VHT, Rustoleum or any "header" paint it's burnt off. That even being surgically clean and prepping the best I could. I'm AMAZED that what little paint is left on my 2460's is still there.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
you might be right, I finally got it all done and fired back up (after having the timing set 180 off). With the new injectors, new AFPR, new headers, new Y Pipe I half-assed fabbed up, repaired some of the grounds, it runs strong. Fuel pressure is a little low but I still haven't replaced the filter or the fuel pump. Need to hook the exhaust to the cat, tighten a brake line, bleed the brakes, among other things before I take it for the first datalogging. I also installed the moates.net G1 adapter, ZIF socket and burned a ABWT bin file...
The headers smoked like crazy when it fired up and started to warm up the first time, they are already starting to turn black so they probably will peel off the VHT coating I so painstakingly applied...thats a major bummer
If only I could get the damn alternator to charge now I'd be golden...

Same here. Yours look great. I stripped, sanded, acetone wipedown, vht prime, vht 2k, 3 heat cycles in the grill per instructions. Within a half hour on the car they are peeling all over. Either I missed something or the stuff just sucks.

Have checked out Dyno Don headers? They are the only 1 3/4" primaries available since SLP quit making them. He sells everything you need from the heads to the cats. He built my entire exhaust system and I know for a fact he goes out of way his way to make sure they fit.

Re: Hooker Competition Headers 2460-1HKR
thanks talltim!
It hasn't started to peel yet, yet being the operative word. I have only run it for a few minutes at a time so far as I am struggling to get the alternator to charge still.
I have checked the dyno don headers, while they do look like some very nice headers, for me personally they are cost prohibitive right now
