Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
I tried making replacement panels for my gauges, hvac/radio, and center console out of aluminum diamond plate and I haven't liked the look of any of them. I'm not sure what it was, but it just didn't look right. Maybe it was because I was trying to use the factory gauges? I don't have the $$ right now to replace them, just thought I could dress them up a bit. I still have the pieces I made somewhere, I'll have to grab some pics tonight and post them up.
The other problem I ran into with them is that since the diamond plate is diamond plate, the gauges/radio/hvac controls don't sit flush with the front of the panel and I didn't like the way that looked.
I did make some pedals out of diamond plate that turned out great, pic attached below. Sorry for the low quality, it was taken with my cell phone.
I did see on here someone made some replacement door panels out of diamond plate that looked great. I can't remember who it was though. I was thinking of doing that at some point.
I'll be following along though, I want to see how yours turns out. Hopefully it looks a lot better than mine did.

Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
well price isnt an issue at all... im not rich but my dad is getting it for me and its because hes working with 1/4 inch thick 4 by 8 sheets of aluminum diamond plate at his job. The job ordered way to much so my dad said hed bring me home some pieces cuz hes done with it on the job and they still have a foot high stack of it. I've seen the door panels toon and they did look great as for your pedals they arent bad i think you just picked bad spots to cut out off when you made them you really need to consider where the diamonds will be so im going to take a picture when i get the stuff and photo shop it to figure out where i want to cut so i can see the potential piece in the shape of the pedal. i was thinking abaout doing more with it too but not too much more. My radiator support is cracked from an accident so that a great i dea to replace it and i was thinking since its aluminum and it doesnt conduct heat well i can use it as a heat sheild for my starter and make a battery box out of it. theres alos the panels under the dash that cover the access from below that i didnt get with the car when i bought it and i want to make a trauck liner out of it because i throw my tools in it all the time.
Its also a good excuse to get and learn to use a welder.
Well i can get alot of it and my dad said since there is so much and the compnaies are so massive that its pocket change to them he can see about bringing the truck one day and taking 3-5 sheets of it that would be perfect cuz if i mess up then who cares
----------
92 try polishing your pedals up with a buffer and some mother billet aluminum polish. it works amazingly and i think you'll like the pedals a lot more

Someone made a diamond plate console for their Camaro and posted pictures here... was like a few years ago maybe. Do a search.
It looked awful, and it had nothing to do with craftsmanship. Its just a really bad idea.

yeah diamond plate doesnt look right on the interior of a car..........in my opinion it does look good under the hood along with all its other aluminium friends......heads, valve covers, timing covers, intakes, air cleaner covers, etc

Stuff like pedals isn't bad. If you want to do the dash or anything in the interior, you can do it very cheaply with decal material available at Walmart. The dash in my race car was made with sheet aluminum and a circular prism decal sheet over it.

Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
I got some pics of the dash and console. I never really completed them as I'm still deciding on whether or not to use them, so they are still just a little rough, but its enough to get a good idea of how it would look. This was originally a little side project, there is so much other work that needs done on the car(like welding the front clip on) that the aluminum plate is kind of on the back burner right now.
I should have paid more attention to how the diamond pattern ran vs. the shape I was trying to cut out but I was limited in my placement as I didn't have very large pieces to work with. Just some scraps I got from my brother(he tried removing the back seats in his Eclipse and making a new floor from diamond plate). They had partial cuts in them, and holes drilled in random places, and it looked like he tried sticking some kind of foam tape on in places for some reason.
Striped - I did use some aluminum polish on them, but I don't have a buffer, so I tried it by hand and wasn't that impressed with the results. My brother has one so I'm gonna try and get my hands on it next time I see him.

I did my center console plates in aluminum, then polished it. Ill try and get some pics sometime. Was a pain though cause I had to get it cut out on a CNC.

Good for 4x4s, not our cars.
I made a radio plate for my lifted Jeep, still have the plate, not the Jeep.

Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
im gonna use a dremel to cut it most likely. It is only aluminum rather than stainless steel so it shouldnt be too bad even if it is 1/4". I found out the that it costs 340 per 4' x 8' sheet of this stuff and im definately stoked not to be paying for that. my main thing i want to do with the stuff is really make a removable trunk liner to protect the carpet and some of the plastic from my tools being tossed in and out of it. With it welded too i can also through oil and stuff into it with no worries

Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
my dad made a new floor for an old work truck with aluminum diamond plate. stuff would dig into the soft metal when tossed into the bed and not move. could be good or bad. but then, i'm sure you're not using your thid gen for an a/c service vehicle.

i was the one who made the door panels out od diamond plate. my dad got it from work free too. i got a new computer so i dont have any pics. youll have to search "diamond plate" it looked pretty good but it was too much so i covered them. still got them in the car. ill probably have them forever . they wont wear out im going to get them covered professionally though.

Re: aluminum diamond plate ideas
it does look god but i think the door panels are too much for me. after a short time i feel like i would get annoying with them. plus my dad want to try to get one or two full sheets to do some stuff in the boat and to fab something up for the bronco in the back cuz the carpet is rank and the diamond plate would look badass with the top off the bronco.
