Tow hook mounting?
I'm planning on doing some track days with my car, and as long as its apart I might as well add some tow hooks just in case (and to help get it in a trailer instead of wrapping a strap around the axle!). I've seen some pictures of them poking out under rear bumpers and through the front grille, but where are they being attached under the car? Are the bumper mounts strong enough?

Re: Tow hook mounting?
I'd like to see some tow hooks also, specially front hooks on Firebirds...

Or a write up on location placement.

Re: Tow hook mounting?
looks pretty cool. I'd like to see hooks that slide out, I wouldn't want a red hook sticking out the front on my daily driver...

Mount them in a square tube, like the slide-in receivers for trailer hitches. A flat bar could be mounted like a Class 1 hitch. Short rectangular mount for a simple bar, like that tow hitch above.

Re: Tow hook mounting?
Would either of those work on a third gen though? Both of those links talk about bolting through a frame, I'm not sure how well that would work on the unibody. That sheet metal doesn't look strong enough to be dragging a 3000+ lb. car around..
What about a straight shot off the K member? Assuming the steering and sway bar aren't in the way..

Re: Tow hook mounting?
yeah, I thought about using the tow hitch idea before. I'm not quite ready to do this mod, so I haven't given it alot of thought...

Re: Tow hook mounting?
You could eaisly make something to work in the fog light holes. I made one at work that retracted. I looked similar to the one pictured above. I mad to three inch slots. Added a spring and it worked great. Slid out when being pulled on and slid back when no pressure was on it. Sorry no pics. Plus it was on a vette.
