fabricated dash

im looking into making a new dash out of aluminum. does anyone here have a few pics they would like to share? im going with the race car look and it will give a nice clean/smooth finish. the reason for going this route is my stock dash is cracked beyond repair. i will be using all autometer gauges

Re: fabricated dash

I like the top picture, just plain functional, kinda Nascar style

AlkyIroc made one for his racecar, you could search for pics of it.

Re: fabricated dash

I tried to keep it simple but still use the stock dash carrier assembly.

Re: fabricated dash

dash swing out so you can work on electrical. I will carpet it so you don't see the hinge.

Re: fabricated dash

Aluminum dashes are nice but I had to put some fabric on the top. Our track faces south and I was getting so much glare from the sun, I couldn't look out the window.

Mine is very basic. A piece of aluminum bent to give a face for the gauges then a small bend along the bottom to give some stiffness. It's barely attached to the car. 2 rods on either side hold the dash to the body, that's it. It survives my wheels up launches.

Large oil warning light, oil pressure gauge, coolant temp gauge and engine oil temp gauge (Which I don't use any more). Voltage gauge is mounted in the overhead switch panel. The 1/4" stereo plug above the steering column is for the transbrake buttons on the steering wheel. Makes a quick and easy way to disconnect and take the steering wheel out of the car. The tach is mounted to the a-pillar tube.

Re: fabricated dash

The face of my dash I think was only 6". Might be 5". I only needed it large enough to house the smaller gauges.
