Fuel lines for an 86 TPI
building an 86 iroc i picked up for cheeeeep...needs the majority of the fuel lines replaced, buuut im having trouble locating the lines from any and pretty much all sources. does anyone know of places that custom make fuel lines that will bolt right up like a factory replacement? id rather have a tight factory fitting on the pressurized fuel lines then a repair kit...any input is greatly appreciated. thanks!

We don't allow non-supporting vendors to push their products, however members are encouraged to talk about vendors and share information, regardless of supporting status.
I cut my hard lines at the sender, and flared it to attach a -6 AN hose. I run about a foot or two of braided into a summit high pressure filter. Then I attach to the factory hard line to run between the axle and engine bay, where I turn into -6AN braided again.

Hi Anesthes,
I'm looking to replace ALL my fuel lines with -6AN but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to go from the sender nipple/flare to -6AN. I see you say you flared yours. Can you give me some details as to what kind of flare you used and what adapter to -6AN. Also, I'm looking for suggestion on what inline filter to use, specifically, what micron size. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So anyway, out of the sender where the factory nuts are cut and flared it with a double flare. You can do a 37* flare and use AN tube nuts, or a 45* flare and use an adapter. You need a double flaring tool because the OEM fuel line will crack on the seam when you tighten it, so it may be better to use a 45* tool since they are cheaper and just use a -6 to 3/8 adapter.
For the filter, I used a Russel 650133 which is 40 micron, and -6 in and out. So I made a small braided hose between the hard line at the tank and the filter, then I come out of the filter with hard line and don't transition back to braided hose until I'm by the brake booster.

Cool! Thanks for the detailed information. I have a 45* I used before for my brake lines. I actually think I have the adapter because my original plan was to use the factory lines into the engine bay and then convert to AN into a remote mount AFPR but I might as well do the whole thing. I'm also doing the return. Thanks again for the information.

Re: Fuel lines for an 86 TPI
(months later...) I have one more question I ran into if you don't mind. What pressure are the tube nuts rated to? I read somewhere they only go to 40-50 psi. I'm running a tpi fuel injected setup and my fuel pressure will be above that. Thanks again.

Like I said earlier, I double flared mine and used a 3/8 to -6 fitting.
You could pick up a 37* flaring kit, and double flare it as well if you want to skip the adapter, and use a male-male -6 fitting. These are FLARED tube nuts, which are not the same as the compression style ones the carb guys use. They will be a tube nut and sleeve.

Re: Fuel lines for an 86 TPI
Thanks for coming to my rescue again. So, to clear it up, if I used the tube nut with the "crush sleeve" (I guess you could call it) then it's only rated for 40 psi. However, If I double flare and join, (I hereby relieve you of ANY responsibility for ANY repercussions that may arise if I do this) then I should be OK.

Re: Fuel lines for an 86 TPI
Halelujah...holy crap!!! I finally got it! (This is what lack of sleep because of 4 month old twins and a very sick 12 year old dog will do to your though processes.) Anyhow, I mixed up the genders of the tube nut and the compression fitting and it wasn't making sense. Am I correct in saying that, doing a double 37 degree flare with the correct tube nut, that it actually becomes a -6AN female end?
