McDonald's Edition Camaro

I was looking through the Auto Trader adds for another 1987 Camaro and came across this trippy car. The wheels look ok. The hatch I have not seen before.

Yep, I saw it . It just showed up on ebay too. The wheels look weird to me on a Camaro.

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

1) Its an LG4 " It has a 5.0 liter V8 engine WOW Thats a lot of horsepower!!" (Had to laugh)
2) The McDonalds thing... It might have been a local thing, maybe a regional or national., hard to say honestly.. I never heard of it, I do know that it was not a Factory option...
3) The hatch is odd indeed, it appears to be a bucket in the back, maybe for a whirlpool It honestly looks like a modified C&C hatch with a hole... I suspect they used the car for parades of some sort, and people would stand in the back of the car... There appears to be some strips on the bottom, probably for anti-slippage...

I dunno... its interesting, but not $15K interesting to me...

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

The price their asking isn't too far out of line with other low mile cars. It's an 87 Z28, the last year for the Z28 appearance. They might be banking on that and the low miles. If I bought that car to enjoy, the rear hatch and rims would be the first thing to go. Serial #1 McDonalds means absolutely nothing to the value or future value of the car, so it would all have to go.

Because things like this go away and there is no record of them... I thought I would post 6 pix that I thought were the best representation of the car... Who knows, it may turn out to be some special project for McDonalds and was actually done by GM... Doubt it, But you have enough money and GM will do things for you...

Yeah, but most of those other cars asking 10-20k are low mile cars that are near stock or if modified, done tastefully. This thing looks like a mishmash of ideas that were cool in the 80's but didn't stand the test of time. Luckily, whoever did it at least had the money to install them correctly.

The wheels are very cool, though (save for the McD's logo). Maybe Ronals or Konigs or something like that. I wish wheel manufacturers would start reproducing 80's style mesh/crosslace wheels in modern sizes (17-18").

I hate when horridly tasteless people ruin good cars, looks like thats a monte maybe? Hard to tell without seeing the full car, nonetheless NO car deserves that done to it, not even a morris marina.....

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

I don't know why you guys are bashing this car -- the seller is right, 5.0 litres is a TON of horsepower!

Seriously though, nothing special about this one. In fact, I'd pay considerably less for it than if it was stock. Those wheels are fugly. Not a fan of the notchback either.

Still interesting to see that McDonald's put so little effort into the paint scheme though. No red or yellow anywhere on the car. Too bad that 1978-79 Cutlass wasn't customized/unofficially sponsored until probably a few years ago, they could've gotten a few ideas from it for sure.

does anybody think this car was a giveaway of some sort (like a monopoly thing)? And not an actual special edition? From what I have seen and read there is nothing special about it

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

It could be a give away promotional thing. I bet the dealer is getting some added attention over it as well.

The logo on the seat looks kind of tacky along with some of the other things, but it could have been much louder in overall appearance. So over all if it is legit it's more tasteful than it could have been.

Interesting find, thanks for posting it.
Would be cool to have a section for oddities like this to browse through once in a while, and for reference.

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the non-standard striping job as well.

For a promo car, it's pretty tasteful, and I reiterate that I'd rock those rims without the logos on the center caps. They'd look crappy on my car, but on a black car with the stripes at the bottom, they go hand-in-hand IMO.

It's better than having a Marlboro sticker on your car...

Caprice is a B-body.

IIRC, A-bodies include:

73-77 cutlass, grand prix, monte carlo, and probably a buick of some sort (can't remember which though since there aren't any left). I want to say they also include 68-72 lemans/gto, cutlass, GS, and malibu/chevelle, but may be dead wrong there.

Although parts are similar appearing, there's little to no parts interchange between a G-body Monte Carlo and a Caprice.

The EBAY add tells who built the car so its not any factory thing, its just something that some McDonalds had made for them. I thought about going to the car lot to look at it but wasnt interested enough to bother. I am sure that this is a #1 of only 1! nice milage( probrably mostly parades and uch), but not a historic find

Re: McDonald's Edition Camaro

To shed some info on the car:

It was traded in to Sewell Lexus Ft. Worth about a month a go or so. My cousin works there and sent me a slew of pictures as soon as it came in asking what it was (I've just been too busy moving to post them up).

The guy that owned it was a regional manager of a slew of McDonalds and he used the Camaro as a 'show car / promo car"

Sewell had no reason to want the car for a trade in aside from its incredibly low miles, I'm surprised another dealership bought it.

I know the price that was it was traded in for, and if it really did sell for under 6k the dealership/Sewell lost a chunk of change.

Feel free to pst me with any questions.

I rechecked the ebay auction page and it was a no reserve auction, it says the winning bid was $5,733.00. I may 30th, They posted a Craigslist ad for the car and they were asking $14,999 for it.
