Re: finding the original owner
I would like to know who the last true (legal) owner of my car is because they still have the title in their name. I bought it as a race car with no title but I do know the serial #.
Every one tells me to let sleeping dogs lie but I sure would like to have a title even if I have to pay him a little for his trouble. The guy forfited the car when he couldn't pay his bill at the race car shop. But that was a couple of owners ago in a different state (Ohio). Sure wish the shop owner would have gotten a mechanics lien on the car and applied for a title himself. But he didn't want to be bothered with paperwork.
I'm sorry. I don't mean to steal this thread.

Getting back to the original post, how do you know the car even came out of a Tenn dealership?

Re: finding the original owner
Do a search on TGO for Original Invoice. You can contact GM via the information in that thread and get your original invoice. The invoice states the original dealership the car was delivered to with an options list and pricing.

Re: finding the original owner
I brought my truck to the GMC dealer for service once and they printed me the trucks entire history. At the top was the original dealer and date of purchase, two states away and 5 years before I bought it. You could try that.

Re: finding the original owner
You would be surprised what some states DMV's can do for you if you ask around. I have applied for the title history on a 1982 Trans Am I have and they gave me copies of titles spanning 12 or so different owners over 4 different states. They just blacked out SS# on most (some were missed). But I have copies of titles for every owner since new (which featured the dealership name as well as bank that made the loan). I think the DMV charged me around $30 and it took a month or 2 to receive.

Re: finding the original owner
My '87 convertible was sold new in Tennessee, I was able to get from the Tenn. Motor vehicle dept. a copy of the original MSO and the bill of sale from the selling dealer, which was Capitol Chevrolet in Nashville. That was around 1999 or 2000 , The polices may have changed, but contact them, it's at least worth a try... Chris

Re: finding the original owner
i know from my PHS documentation, and my build sheet that my T/A was originally sold to VA. Then the previous owner bought it, who lived in Maryland, and now i own it in PA, so i know mines been through 2 owners and 2 previous states. Original owner must have loved the car for the fact of how straight the body is on it, the second owner just left it sit under the tree. Main point if you can somehow find a build sheet or even contact a chevy dealer they can prob tell you where it was orig sold at
