Window sticker dealer information?

I want to try and get some history on my car after reading the bottom of my window sticker. Is this normal for convertibles, does it have something to do with the logistics of ASC conversions or is mine something different.

My window sticker says it was delivered to CPC Group Engineering Center on Van Dyke Rd Warren Michigan. Which what I can find was GM's engineering headquarters. It also shows it was ordered by dealer 00-502 which is engineering and delivered to 00-185 which is the engineering group. So unless the verts were coded like this for ASC it seems my car was not ordered by or delivered to a dealer.

Any of you historians have any insight?

I did find this other sticker from a '92 Vert and it would appear they had a normal ordering process. Now I really want to find out the history of my car.

What does CarFax have to say about the Title history. I’m guessing it was ordered by someone in engineering as their Demonstrator vehicle. I know several of the office employees at the plant had Demo vehicles, so that might be the same with Engineering.

Carfax has no records at all prior to 2008. Title is clear but no records prior to 2008 with 13,000 miles at the time.

I don't think the lack of Carfax reports itself says much about the car's history. Some of mine didn't have previous records either.

We've got another member who has a 1991 Trans Am Convertible that was also a C.P.C test vehicle that also has C.P.C Engineering Test & Dev. Vehicle stickers under the hood:

Re: Window sticker dealer information?

Is this one of those deals where the car was ordered by a GM employee purchase program, the car was used for awhile by a GM exec/branch then sold to the employee at a later date for a reduced price? Seem to remember reading something like that at some point.

I don't see any of these other stickers but I do see that the one in your linked post says it is supposed to be removed. Def. Interesting.

I'm not really sure. I hope it's something a little more interesting than that. I know I won't get a specific account of my exact car but I have located a few GM CPC engineers of that era through LinkedIn that I hope can shed some light on some more possibilities.

Re: Window sticker dealer information?

The best I have been able to come up with so far is that convertible Camaros were used around that time for compartative purposes in development of the 4th gen convertible due in '94. I have a bunch of messages to names of people I found related to projects back then hoping to get some information. If this is the case I am sure there are archive pictures somewhere. Probably impossible to find but that would be awesome.

Window sticker says the ordering dealer was 00-502 which is CPC GROUP ENGINEERING CENTER and it was shipped to dealer 00-185 which is 185 SERVICE TECHNOLOGY HDQRTS - CPC

Where I am at now is CPC used late '92 Camaro convertibles for 4th gen convertible development. With that I searched articles about 4th gen development and got the name of Kirk Bennion who was in charge of exterior design on the 4th gen. He currently is in charge of Corvette design. I used two points of contact which are purely speculative since his contact info isn't really advertised. I am pretty good at getting a hold of important corporate people so I am pretty sure he'll get my message through one way or another. I just have to hope 1) He responds and 2) He remembers something about using thirdgen verts for 4th gen development.

I also submitted a request through GM archives for images related to 4th gen convertible development.

We'll see...

Have you run across the name Dick DeVogelare(I don’t remember the exact spelling of his last name without looking it up). He was the F Body Platform Manager in 1992. Patrick Morrissey was the Marketing contact in Van Nuys in 92 and I believe still works at GM. Both might be able to help if you can contact them.

Just messaged Dick DeVogelaere. We'll see where that goes. Thanks

Re: Window sticker dealer information?

Minor update: I was successful in contacting Kirk Bennion which was the one I was most hoping to contact and the most exciting. He was in charge of designing the 4th gen and also the newest Corvette currently. He said he was working there when my car was still a clay model. Unfortunately and as probably expected he does not remember my car so I am still at square one. Even if it was just ordered for an exec I am hoping to find an angle to figure it out.

He did mention they had a white 1LE that would drive around and another 1991 1LE they raced in SCCA.

Re: Window sticker dealer information?

These are really interesting to me.

Especially the one you mention that references Service Technology. The Service Technology Group (STG) in those days was responsible for all things service for GM. Diagnostics, special tools, manuals, serviceability, collision repair, bulletins, etc. etc. etc. But getting "A" vehicle (any vehicle) to validate and develop on was like pulling teeth. These are often early (pilot) cars, due to the timing involved in doing the work, and having the tools, parts and procedures out before the vehicles are publicly for sale. The idea that they had the budget for a dedicated vehicle, and that they spent that money on a last model year vehicle which had virtually no new content....that is interesting to me. If the VIN # in question is not a very low one, I would guess it was ordered through STG for some other reason (exec?).

Re: Window sticker dealer information?

I did find out what dealer it did ultimately go to. Greenwood Chevy in Youngstown Ohio. I messaged them in hopes maybe they have old records and someone is intrigued enough to provide me some information. I'm particularly interested in the date they got it to see if it is considerably later than the April '92 build date and also the miles at delivery. If they got it in the fall with a few hundred miles on it that would be pretty interesting. Wouldn't answer anything but if they got in May with 6 miles it would tell me it has a boring history.

Kirk raced a black Z28 sponsored by Powers Distributing. He's a great guy, and friend.
