sliding rear window in notchback?
i was wondering if it was possible to put a sliding rear window in a notchback? kinda like the ones in a lot of trucks.
can it be done?
has it been done?
should it be done?
how hard would it be to do?

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
i was thinking you could take the window frame from an s10 or something like that and cut it down till its the same size as the window in the notchback. then you could get a sheet of plexiglass or lexan and cut out the window pieces and caulk them into the modified window frame.

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
i cant believe no one has any thoughts on this.
other than gumby who said that if the window is fairly square it should be cake to do but if the window is rounded like his it would be an expensive pita. are the original gta notch back hatches window square enough? what other brands of notchbacks have a square enough window?

How about using the mechanism from an Avalanche where they slide down into the back wall so you can fold it down for more room or up for more passengers.

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
No were for it to slide down.
The 2nd thought I had would be make it like an early moon roof, or a van side window, where it has a locking lever that when flipped down, opend it up a few inches, then lock closed to stop weather.

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
It would be too wide for the notchback.
Maybe a slider from a 60's - 70's datsun pickup.

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
Never took a tape measure to the Dakota. My dad doesn't even have the the truck anymore. I just thought that it can't be that much bigger than a s10. It's just that the Dakota had a power slide back window.
And as for my notch back..( I will post pics later ) the flat part between the window and spoiler has two dips and when it rains. It makes three lakes. Two on the notch back along the bottom of the window and one in the car. The notch back doesn't even seal right. It leaks more than my t-top. I like The notch back, but who ever put it on just didn't do what I would call a good job. But I liked enough to buy it like that so I will fix it or replace it.

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
brain fart, wonder if you could buy or make a thin but long sliding plastic vent.
Think of like a floor or heat vent. a couple of tabs to push over a tad to open or close a whole bunch of slots.
and I mean small in height, 1-2in but close to full width but not full width.
I think for sealing and strength, just notch the botom of the window for it, but still have 2 sections on each side into the window seal. So the vent isn't holding the bottom of the window in.
mull that one around.......

Re: sliding rear window in notchback?
in that pic the center is a tab, push to the left they all close, to the right open. But nothing so big n bulk or such a wide boarder.
Might be already made. That design is popular in plastic HVAC floor vent covers.

Re: sliding rear window in notch back?
I have a aftermarket notch back and there is no dam to support the window.
Any ideas, suggestions, pictures and information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Re: sliding rear window in notch back?
-------
Also to have any sort of window that opens in the notch the exhaust would have to run out the sides and maybe in front of the rear tire.
Its like a station wagon then [I have one] factory the exhaust runs out the sides so when the rear window is down or even cracked, it won't suck fumes into the car. It would do the same with a notchback if it ran out the back.
