new door latch review

my door is in bad shape overall,
i started with buying a new latch caz
i have to really bang on the door to shut it.

I bought a new latch for my pass side,
replaced them and now the door latches all the way very smoothly!
no more rattling noise either becaz my rubber piece was totally shot,
but now its all quiet.

i still have rattle from door hinge.. but the replacement was totally worth my money, was only 80$ and i dont have to tell my g/f or friends to bang on the door when shutting doors

i would fix the hinges next cause that could be why the latches broke
same thing happened on my iroc the doors sagged so bad you had to pick up to shut them. wasn't long the drivers side latch went out . did the latch & hinge pins no more problems .

How big of a job was the latch install? Where'd you buy the new latch?

it was actually hard to find online.
i think u might be able to buy if off dealer,
but Im quiet sure its cheaper in this site.

Milea Pontiac Buick GMC Subaru Daewoo

the job was simple.. but u do need the door panels off.
I read somewhere that while replacement the window had to be all the way down, so I followed that too. (not sure of the consequences if u dont)

instructions: take door panels off gently, try not to break panel clips and stuff.. u need the arm rest and console peace off, but those are just bolts off and snap off.

unbolt the 3bolts on side of the door(where it latches)
unscrew all that, but maybe leave 1 off to prevent drop offs.
what i did next was observe the latch a bit,
u'll see 3rods attaching to the latch,
memorize or label which rods goes into each place,
then take the rod off from the old latch.
Plastic peaces holds the rod into place, so use flathead and turn them around so rod goes freely.
take all rods off
now put the new latch in place like how it was,
connect all the rods where it supposed to be, and u r DONE!

seriously, very easy, took me 30min
not knowing what the hell to do at all,
so should take u way less. this was my 1st time taking my door panel off too.. so u get the idea. was worth my time and money for sure

it has been a few years since i did my hinges and it took us most of the day to do both doors but my hinge was so worn out we had to search hardware store for bigger bushings , then use the ones in the repair kit.not many tools involved ,hammer ,chisels , punch , cant think of what else but most is basic stuff.hard part is getting the old pins out , and getting the spring on the bottom hinge back in place ( very stiff ) but we got it (dont remember how ). do a search on hinge repair , guarantee there is lots of info on it on here . good luck

also i got my latch from the dealer for 60 some bucks few years back .
