Is that a yellow light that is located behind the vents under the dash pad? I have my interior stripped right now as I fix previous owners wiring splices, etc and I can accross it. It is a 1" square peice inset to the underside of the dash and has what looks like a yellow light in it. It has 2 wires going to it in a factory harness. Can't locate it in my GM service manual. What is it? What does it do?
its a light but on most they dont give off any good anount of light. they have em there cuz its not a well lit aera on the camaro . just put an led in there
Theres more mystery and drama around that bizarre light than anything else on these cars!
All we have is speculation about what it's for. COncensus seems to be that it lights up the HVAC/radio area.... but it doesn't do a very good job of it.
It's meant to illuminate the console at night. It's meant to be only bright enough to help your eyes easily find the locations of the ashtray and shifter, etc, without being to bright to be irritating at night.
That's correct, it does come on with the gauge/dash. It's a gentle light, but if you think it should be brighter, check to see if it even works. If it does, the bulb hole may be filled with dust/dirt.
I need to get one of those. . .lol mine is missing. I feel like I'm missing out. I only noticed it after I bought my car. While cleaning it I felt a big azz hole under the dash and wondered what it was for. . .
