Cruise control/wiper arm replacement--HELP!

Im very frustrated right now. I am trying to replace my CC/wiper arm. Ive removed the old arm and HAD a wire attached to the old Cruise control wire. So, I was attempting to fish the new wire thru the column and my music wire broke! What do I do now? The only thing I can think of is that I need to remove the plastics around the steering column but dont want to break anything (I dont see any screws holding these on). How do I remove the plastics on the column or is there another way to fish this cruise control wire thru the column?

I've done 3-4 of these.Including my car twice & never have i needed to remove anything. There is a plastic sleeve inside the column that the wire travels thru.Make sure the column is straight & the signal switch is in the up position prior to installing. This will make the wire go thru ALOT easier.Ive done it before without needing to use any piano wire.If the wire gets stuck.Just pull it back about an inch & retry.Eventually itll go thru. The only way to remove the plastic cover is by removing the steering wheel & partially disassembling the tilt/column, TMW.

I dont know how you did it but I cannot get the wire thru the column. At this point Ive removed the steering wheel and the lock cover but cant seem to get the steering column cover off (Ive removed the 3 torx screws). Do I need to remove the ignition switch? Is there another way to run this wire thru? Im getting really frustrated by what appeared to be a pretty simple job.

Like i said make sure the column is straight & not in the tilt up/down position. In the 1st pic the signal switch looks to be in the down position.Make sure it all the way up to give the most room to finess the harness in there. You are really doing alot of unecessary work for this. That second cover behind the signal stalk is a bitch to remove. Its easy to break it trying to remove it.Patience is key.Even though ive done a few of these it did take me several tries to wiggle the wire all the way thru

Re: Cruise control/wiper arm replacement--HELP!

During my quest to screw up my car (lol) I had a plastic piece fall out and need to know if anyone knows how its supposed to be installed. It fell out when I removed the tilt steering cover. The tilt steering rod runs right through this area...
Im really kicking myself but need to fix this mess Ive created. Does anyone recognize this piece (the little one) and know how its supposed to be attached to the tilt steering cover?

Thanks

Re: Cruise control/wiper arm replacement--HELP!

Not sure if you already figured it out but, that little piece if for your high beams. the long notch lays on the tang on the bigger piece then the curved end presses against the end of a spring.** You will be able to tell because it has the exact curve.** The rounded end sits behind your wiper arm once you get it up there take a pocket screwdriver and move it into place as you put the ignition shell back on. This is one of those times where it would help if you had 3 hands.

Sorry I cant take pics hope this at least somewhat helps.

You're welcome. That was a fun piece to figure out without good diagrams, but at least now the hard part is done. Now replace the horn switch and you're golden.

The little plactic peice that fell out ( for the high beams ). Is there a screw that holds it to the steering column oncne you have it back in?

Re: Cruise control/wiper arm replacement--HELP!

No, you have to hold it in place and carefully slip the steering column cover over it which will keep that plastic piece in place. It will take a couple attempts to get it right.
