Best place to mount after market gauges..

Without looking like Paul walker drives my car..

Honestly, When I was in my car removing that horrible EFI wiring harness, I may have become a little bit... Cutter happy..
I hacked off my temp sensor for my gauge, and I really cannot find it.. So I bought a really nice autometer knock off..
Where is a good place to mount gauges in these cars? I don't really want anything too noticeable, but I want to be able to check it while driving.

Right below the center vents is a safe place. I have a triple gauge mount there in mine.

Now if it makes any difference.. I technically have no more heat or AC, perhaps I could utilize that space where the controls are..

Re: Best place to mount after market gauges..

Decided against the Equiis gauge, going with two autometers, one a water temp, the other a vacuum gauge.. I'm going to put them where my heater controls should be!

Here is the custom switch panels and gauge settup in my 87 z28. Not the best picture, doesnt really show how good the aluminum looks. I really love the way it came out. Took a while to do all by hand but well worth it to me. Autometer gauges with angle rings face them towards the driver. And dont make fun of my firebird streering wheel lol i have since changed it. What you guys think?

Re: Best place to mount after market gauges..

Now the question I'm dieing to ask..

How did you run the wires/hoses for your gauges through the firewall?
Where did you drill, and what did you use to fill it up.

Re: Best place to mount after market gauges..

Project, those are 5" gauges right? Looks like they're sitting in the stock gauge cluster. What did you do to get them to fit? That's really clean looking and I'd do that in a heartbeat if it's a clean install.

I drilled just a little off center by the driver side head down low. Just used a rubber grommet to seal it up. I will try to get a picture up when I get home later tonight

Here you go. Not the best pictures but they work. Pretty much right behind the driver side cylinder head.

Another one from the top. You can see i have a few different things coming out of the one on the right and my nitrous line is coming out of the left one.

And i had to throw in the last one just cause i want to show off my new carb. Its preaty lol

Re: Best place to mount after market gauges..

Thanks man, that saves me a bunch of time figuring out where to drill!
Hopefully Autogage gives me enough line on the RTD to get to my passenger side head, I have a fan controller in the other port!

i bought it. i trimmed the edges so that the tips would be flush. also trimmed a little off the back to make it shorter. after that it worked really good.
