I have a 1983 Camaro and in trying to replace my cracked auto shift ****. It's the round ball with the button on top. It doesn't twist or anything and it doesn't have the clip behind it either, how can you remove these *****?

Re: Removal of shift ****

Move the shifter all the way to the rear of the car. Look down at the base of the shift **** from the front of the **** and you'll see the small slot. Inside is the clip you'll remove with a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Like I said it doesn't have a clip or anything, it's just the ball and the button

Idk about 2 hours, but some needle nose pliers and a bit of patience will do it.

I used ice picks until I bought a set of snap ring pliers.

It's not like it's a big investment. Buy the tool and have it forever. http://www.harborfreight.com/snap-ri...eads-3316.html
That being said, I have used pointy needle nose and picks with success, but the right tool works so much better.

Re: Removal of shift ****

I use a thin flat blade screwdriver to remove the snap ring.Sometimes it takes a few tries but it's an aquired technique
