Power a Vette LS1 filter can support?
Curious if anyone has found the flow limits of the Vette LS1 filter. Assuming the fuel pump is up to the task, of course.
At sea level, the stroked LQ4 I'm building should make in the 600 HP range at the crank. It'll be a little less up at our altitude, but no reason to assume it'll never be at sea level.
I've wondered if I should put two of them in parallel, or get a regulator that can handle the flow and control the pressure.

Well.... They take 500whp pretty often without issue. Not sure what the limits are but thats about the limits for most NA set ups anyways. After that its boost or spray and that typically brings on the beefed up fuel components

The pump outlet will be -8, so I might run 1/2" up to the engine and use the existing 3/8" for the return. The restriction will then be the LS3 fuel rail. And, I'll have to find a filter with 1/2" in/out that can handle EFI pressure.

I don't think you'll have issues. People run 500 RWHP all the time on stock fuel lines with only pump upgrades. My Racetronix pump and wiring will support deep into the 600 HP range and I have never seen any recommendation from Racetronix that I should upgrade fuel filter too. Those kits are intended for stock fuel lines.

I didn't want to get it all together and on the dyno and have them tell me I'm losing pressure at the rail due to flow restriction. On the other hand, I don't want to spend money unnecessarily.
I doubt I'll be putting down 500 RWHP at altitude. And, if I happen to run it at sea level, I'll probably have to detune to keep it over 11.50, anyway (no roll bar).

Personally, I chose to upsize the fuel rail but it was just a conservative choice and not necessarily needed.

They have a hard time keeping the pressure even under boost. Never heard of issues with a NA setup

Okay, 2 months old, but an update.
My pump outlets turned out to be 1/4 NPT - not sure where I got -8, can't find any reference to it now.
I wasn't liking the way things were coming together for the Vette filter, so I got an Aeromotive reg, Moroso 10 micron replaceable element filter, all adapted to -6 hard line (except the reg return will be rubber fuel line). Instead of having the filter back by the tank, it'll be up in the engine bay close to the fuel rail.
Last Friday at the track, my son's S10 Blazer LS swap had the Russel fitting pop off the Vette filter outlet after a run. The good news is he was on the return road, not going down the track. No clue why that happened - popped it back on, tugged on it hard several times, been fine since. Supposedly the pump I'm using has more capacity than what he has in the Blazer, or I have in the Camaro. I don't want to get into a failure situation like that.

Re: Power a Vette LS1 filter can support?
Glad it wasn't to serious. I'm guessing it was this type of fitting?
If so Ive been hearing allot of horror stories about them popping off. Especially at the fuel rail, dumping fuel all over the hot headers. Ive never had a problem with them but didn't want to take the chance so I replaced them with the style below. The end collar piece screws into the fitting.

It was the top type that came off. Might try to do some sort of safety wire arrangement from back fitting to front to keep that from happening again. Or, switch over to that bottom type fitting.
I have the bottom type for the fuel rail on the engine I'm putting together. This will be the only fitting of that type in the system.

Hmmmm ive never had nor seen a factory claw type fitting pop off. But the risk of a fuel line coming apart is more than enough reason for me to never run one of those Russel fittings EVER so thank you for posting that.
Seen some scary things with fuel fires over the years

Wow. Glad you guys are sharing this. I have a couple packs of Russell fitting that are never going to be used.
