Gen 4 rear end for ls swap
I have the opportunity to get a used 10 bolt 99 trans am posi 3:73 torsen unit for my iroc.. It was rebuilt 60k miles ago. I know it will fit, but heard the back wheels will stick out a bit.. Anyone know more about this setup for third gens? Pros/cons?

Pro's:
-Cheap
-Disk Brakes
-Posi
-Nice Gearing
-Bolts right in (wheels stick out 1.5" or so more than 3rd gen offset)
Cons:
Is just as weak as any other 10 bolt.
Will not survive with power and traction. If you just roast the tires it will survive.

By the time you go buy new rear wheels with a 4th gen offset, you're better off just to buy a 9" or 12 bolt. I personally wouldn't waste the time with swapping a 10 bolt from a 4th gen. That said, pros are listed above but don't matter if you break it the first time you hook real good.

I did this swap last year to buy me time before I go to a 9 or 8.8 rear. It was easy as I simply bought a set of used C5 wheels. Cost me 300 bucks for the set and 250 for the rear. Also got some 2 inch wheel spacers for the front wheels on ebay for about 60 bucks. Way less than spending 3 grand on a built rear end!
Not sure if it will make any difference but I found a used TA girdle that I paid 50 bucks for. Tossed it on so maybe it won't blow up as fast when I do my LS swap. (Not counting on it though)
