1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
My 1LE is at my buddy's paint shop to get the air dam painted and I'm trying to decide if I should paint the hood blisters back to the stock white or leave them the satin black.
I usually like cars bone stock but am also a fan of cars that tell their stories. The window tinting, SLP cat back exhaust and hood treatment were done by the 2nd owner and I'm thinking of leaving it that way.
Thoughts?

Paint them white. Leaving them satin black looks like you just added them and didn't have the money to have them painted....
If they were a gloss black that'd be a different story.

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
If originality is an issue, then of course the only option is white. ....given that you asked, I assume thats not the case, so with your two choices, I say white. ....however, if it were MY car, Id go with black iroc louvers. Depends how far off the reservation you wanna go. Imho, blisters gotta be body color, iroc louvers can ONLY be black.
Edit.....after looking at your pics, as nice and clean as it is, I say go original and go with white blisters. If it were an RS,
Id say iroc louvers, but on 1LE z28....keep it original looking. Jm2c

PurelyPMD, beautiful '91. I say paint the hood blisters white, the way she left the factory.

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
Well the beauty of this is that it's really up to you. There's only ONE stock appearance, but there's a million options if you follow your personal preference. Why not do rally stripes like the 92s? I've always love them, and of course, they weren't ever offered in black on white. Had a buddy (Luvmy92) that had a black on white 92 with a cowl, and black and white 4th gen seats. Bad *** car.

Another vote for white.
IMO, aside from the headlight buckets, there isn't enough Black on the car for them to go with, and they look like slapped on replacements.

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
I hadn't realized the NOS blisters were flat black - so now I understand the "didn't have the money to have them painted...." comment.
I still think it breaks the car up a little and gives it a more sinister look, something that's been picked up by the current gen models.
Although I think it would look good with the wing painted black too I don't think I'm going to go that far. Still leaning towards leaving them black, at least until I can find some NOS inserts (inserts are currently MIA).

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
The blisters on my 91Z are painted gloss black, I like the look. Like someone else said it breaks up the white but I do think they also look good the factory white. What I did was buy another set of blisters and painted them white, that way I can switch them out easily if I get tired of one look or the other...best of both worlds.

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
I'd do them satin if to match the buckets if you keep them black.
I have a set of hood blisters if you're interested. They are still on a hood and as far as I know never removed. They are black, but paint is burnt.....
If interested, shoot me an offer. I am going to put louvers on them and have no need for these. That way you could have one set of each!

I'd say paint the blisters white, but definitely keep the TOTL exhaust.
Awesome car! Can't wait to see it in person!

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
Everyone has there own opinion and this is mine.
Keep them black.
They add to the black and white theme such as the black light pockets and black grill and tires kept with shine and the back tail lights have some.. They are separated by just enough white to add "Symmetry" .
A white hood will break that up.
I just like the custom, separate me from the crowd look.
Here it is white.

With a car that nice, you can't loose either way.
Myself, I'd paint 'em.

Re: 1991 1LE Z28 Appearance Question
Poll ends in 24 hours & is solidly in the white - unfortunately for you purists, I think the inserts will be staying black for the time being. It's something that's easily changed/corrected in the future, but will give any know-it-all something to immediately pick on when they see the car in a parking lot, cruise night or show.
There will be enough paint left over from the air dam to paint them in the future - I'll pick up another set and have them on the shelf if I ever need them.
Thanks for the compliments guys - car's first cruise/show will be the Max Performance/Pypes show in Hatfield, PA on June 19th/20th. Stop by if you're in the area. http://maxperformanceinc.com/carshow.html

Very clean looking 1LE, id paint them white to paint car, but leave the inserts on them semi-flat, not full flat black.
