The Beloved Beaters
Excited about you're new junkyard score? Gotta fixer-upper ya havn't gotten all shiny and fast yet? Just wanna show us your beloved rust-bucket? Here's the place, home to all of your cars that aren't quite ( ) showroom quality, for whatever reason. Weird stuff is also more than welcome (any off-road thirdgens? Post 'em!). Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so no flaming!
Here's mine
Here's the interior. It's a little ho-hum but comfy (minus the rock-hard head-rests).
Oh, and here's my only performance mod so far: Hint, it's the air filter
Obviously I've got lots of work to do in the shiny and fast departments, but right now I'm focusing on keeping it dependable and comfortable. So far so good!
P.S. This is pretty much how it looked when I got it, minus the new rear tires and the hood (I fixed it up; crooked 4" cowl scoop + 4 gaping holes from failed hood pins, courtesy of the previous owner).

Re: The Beloved Beaters
Here's my 84. Still want to know why the previous owner painted this color. The wheel wells are rusting and the floor had 4 holes you could fit your fist through. Most of the electrical is shot and the 350 the old owner installed only makes about 170 horse Because its out of a late 70's truck. Ah well, the motor gets some goodies soon.

It's amazing how with a little paint and polish aka: TLC the beaters end up looking like gems..............

Re: The Beloved Beaters
here's mine just pulled it out of a field today its been there for 4 years.
85 trans am. It has some hidden goodies though. Its one of my friends car that he has had for about 10 years and has done alot of work on it but lost interest a few years ago and let it sit. Finally he decided to get rid of it. It has a rebuilt
T5 with 800 miles on it with a dual friction centerforce clutch. It has the stock 10 bolt but it has 4.11's auburn locker and moser axles about 1,500 miles on it. Also it has all poly urethane bushings in the suspension. It has all the power options and everything works. I bought it minus the motor.
Also i get 2 sets of wheels with these and the factory WS6 16"'s

Re: The Beloved Beaters
I also just picked this one up from a field about 2 months ago
85 Z28
Here is when i first bought it had the crate motor in it but ran like crap and had also been sitting for 4 years. Here is what it looked like the day i bought it.
And here it is after i have done cam, headers, exhaust, intake, carb and cleaned abunch up
I dont have a current pic of the interior but i have replaced everything in the interior except for the carpet. It kind of sucks that i have put all this work into it and now im going to pull the motor and put it in the T/A and sell it as a roller.

Re: The Beloved Beaters
here is my 86 2.8L firebird. this is my daily transportation.
when i got it:
interior was shot, but the paint was solid. engine bay was BONE STOCK other then the rebuilt shortblock. looked like a dirt bomb had exploded in there.
here it is now. the interior has been brought up to snuff, and the engine bay is WAY better looking, i have also managed to squeeze a few more MPG out of it with some weight cutting. the paint however is on it's way off. there are about 12 rattle canned spots on the exterior where paint has fallen off to reveal bare metal. krylon is better then rust right?

Re: The Beloved Beaters
Why not sell the camaro with the motor in drivable condition? You would get alot more money for it and then you could take that money and build a motor for the TA? By the way you did a pretty good job of cleaning that car up!

Re: The Beloved Beaters
Probably to keep it from getting stolen. A lady kept having her car stolen, it was a red T/A. It was stolen like 4+ times till she asked a mechanic how she could keep them from doing it. He said paint it a really ugly color. So she did and it was never stolen again. Not saying the color of your car is ugly cause i've seen it on a few cars, but it's not a desireable color.

I'm trying to find my pictures now; it's an ebay special that started out as a base model 88 with a V6 and a T5. Now it's sort of maroon with a pirated formula hood and wheels from another 88-ish formula!
