got me a 84 trans am.everything original,runs great. Air, Radio, Heater,light all work.only change,tires and new battery..Its my first project so am just stumped on ideas???

Is it an L69 with a stick? I have one of those, cept I decided to restomod the car into a sleeper. Bone stock in appearance with subtle differences that you'd need to know what you're looking at to know its far from factory stock.

I have one of those too but never had a chance to drive it with the 305. I often wonder how it feels next to my 355

Dad loved it with the L69. That motor failed catastrophically after 172K miles, I drove it with the donor motor from a Caprice. Though I built the motor into an L69/LG4 hybrid. Suffice to say, even with the combined parts mainly LG4, it was not easy to get the hang of it right away with the 3.73 factory rear gear. Two 4 cylinder style launches resulted in scarred pavement for 25+ feet. As it said in my sig, I'm pretty much more than doubling the power, adding a gear and building the suspension. A stimulator I found showed the possible end result of my current build...its scary even to me. It covered the 1/4 in 13.12 but the trap speed of 120 shows it likely left around 2 seconds on the table. Again this is a stimulation. But I took that same stimulator and ran the factory setup, it was pretty much dead on, so if the modded setup is anywhere as accurate as the factory one............

I can tell you with a mild 355 3.73s frame ties poly everything and lowered 2 inches it is fun to drive

I don't have much experience with american V8 (or V8 in general) apart from my T/A, but I had a lot of fun driving it (L69 + T5). It was not running very well due to an oversized carb and a few other stuff, but next time I'll drive it it should run much better...

I've started the restoration more than two years ago. It was necessary : horrible paint, upholstery in poor condition, dirty engine, small rust spots. So far, I've spent around 2500€ ($3000), car included, but I do everything myself (welding, bodywork, paint, motor, electricity, etc...) and I stay stock engine wise. I've just received a very big order of new parts, nothing super fancy, but there's quite a few parts. inside the box :




The hardest was to find the missing/broken 82-84 specific parts.

What do you think doing with the car ? If it really is all original, it would be really sad to mod it.

I agree with you. In my case...it was the incorporation of an idea that was proposed years ago that we never got around to doing. I am only taking it one step further. I needed to rebuild the car as literally everything was shot or broken. When I saw that and looked at the costs I thought what the hell, why not have some fun while I'm at it. Not like an L69 T5 car is extremely rare, they're not common but they're by no means rare, if I discovered it was rare, I would have restored it to factory spec. I still have the original block and cam, also T5s don't have numbers on them, and frankly they're common enough that if I decided to restore the car back original, I can do so easily enough. Hows your build coming along Francois? I saw you got the parts and the body in primer, you get any further? Just an FYI. A neighbor is running KYBs on his wife's Saab Convertible, says they're a rough rattle your teeth out ride. But thats his opinion

I don't have much time those days with the school and all. Now that I got new parts I'm able to rebuild the motor and the suspension.steering stuff.
As for the KYBs, I have no idea, but it can't be worse than the worn out 27 years old shocks and struts. I hope it will be allright.

The T5 of my T/A has the last numbers of the VIN on it, just like the block.

Well I'm not really sure what to do with it just looking for ideas..and yeah its all original 305, 5.0L GARAGE KEPT..original paint...only addition I've done was Flowmaster so far but Idk if to swap engine or just rebuild on it..plus just really learning how or what to fix on cars...still a rookie

I want more performace ..not to over the top..looking so far to get new heads,cam,and carb but stumped on were to get parts for it ..

if you want power don't throw money at the 305...

start with a 350, you will get more bang for your money that way...

although the l69 is a great motor... i wish i still had mine...

I hear you. I didnt keep mine anywhere near stock, but it also already had the original motor half disassembled and toasted when I bought it. What kind of milage does yours have and what kind of condition is it in?

It's in great condition use as daily driver and responds really well...and 130,000 original miles its in good overall shape ..I just want something to run harder and faster.

Get some headers and exhaust work done then maybe an intake manifold. Just stick with stuff that can swap to a 350 if you want to.

Your 305 was recently rebuilt and so was the trans. you've got a reliable car that looks great. Why would you want to swap the engine? I'd say the only thing you need to do is slap a smile on and drive.

I'm with jesse, I've got a stock 305 and I just want a LITTLE better performance, handling and power wise. I'd love a 350.
