Wi. legal Question.
#2
I have seen many diffrent heights and i don't believe there is one, obviously it can't be obstructing your vision. You thinking cowl or a actual air grabber type scoop? This is for a thidgen or??? If it is modified that much and you want to put it on the street you may be better off going to "hobbiest plates" being that there is not a limit on anything thing because it is a fully customized vehicle. You usually see them on tubbed out muscle cars or 4x4 with huge tires!

i've been told its 5 inches, I drove my truck around for two years with a 5.5 cowl and never even got looked at. I have also heard 7 is the max from different people. I guess aslong as it doesn't obstruct your vision its legal.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm not sure if I'm going with a cowl induction hood or a forward facing scoop yet.
I too was told 7" was limit but it just seems to high to me, so I thought I'ld ask.
Pepsicola: I'll work on getting some pics of the wagon for ya.

3" according to WI motor vehicle code, specifically:
305.19 (2)(b): The hood or engine of a vehicle shall have no protrusions that will restrict the drivers view by extending more than 3" above a line that extends from the center of the hood at the base of the windshield, forwad and parallel with the highway.
It's really going to boil down to officers discretion though. If you're hotrodding around town, you could get hassled for a 2" scoop, while an old timer like me driving around town quitely might get away with 4". All depends. Legally they can nab you for anything greater than 3" though. Hope this helps!! =)

A friend of mine has 2 fours sticking out of the hood of his Buick with those triangular edelbrock air filters, and he got pulled over in Appleton once and had to take the filters off to get legal.
