| TIG ARC STARTER circuit DIAGRAM SCHEMATIC Hi
I have been developing a arc starter for tig weldind, ie the high frequency unit that provide the arc without the electrode touching the work.
So far I have some succes with
1 - traditional transformer 230/3600V 60Hz w/ open spark gap (heavy, old fashion, but still in use)
and
2- with small electronic transformer w/ open spark gap.(the electronic transformer replaces the old style transformer)
Now I m looking to assemble a complete electronic unit (no open spark gap). The spark gap will be repaced by a SCR, IBGT, SIDAC or similar device .
So, Id like to interchange ideas or evem schematics in order to construct a complete electronic tig arc starter.
I need some help in obtain information regarding the electronis used in the modern tig machines .

| Re: TIG ARC STARTER circuit DIAGRAM SCHEMATIC Hey Newton,
My name is Philip, I have one of those Harbor Freight Tig machines. For a while now I have been wanting to add arc start. I am a Electronics engineer and electrician by trade. Recently I have returned to working on one of my projects, which involves welding some stainless steel. I do not want to scratch start because the tracks that are left behind is not pretty. Any way, I have a good understanding about how the arc start works and I am getting ready to design one for this machine as time allows. If you are interested we can share info and get something together for these inexpensive tig machines. Let me know,
Philip |

| Re: TIG ARC STARTER circuit DIAGRAM SCHEMATIC Hi Philip !
Thanks for the repply.
Sorry for the delay, I had some difficulty to access this forum.
Yes I have interest in the development a electronic arc starter.
I can pass the experience that I have, despite to be a old experience.
But, as you said, your electronic enginer backgroud will be very helpfull for this project.
My email, newton.b@live.com , please contact me
Thanks

| Re: TIG ARC STARTER circuit DIAGRAM SCHEMATIC Hi !
All the schematics, construction info and tests data for a arc starter are posted in the 4HV.ORG forum.
Just enter at www.4hv.org, go to "High Voltage Forum", look on April 01 2011 and see Newton Brawn description.
