GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

Camaro folks .... Not sure how many of you attend - but...

In the past, the GM Nationals at Carlisle, Pa. have included the Camaro Nationals within the show. The GM Nationals show is put on by Carlisle Productions, the Camaro Nationals are put on by the American Camaro Association (ACA). The Maryland Camaro Club (MCC) has always been the hosting club of the Camaro Nationals at Carlisle, taking care of Camaro registration, awards, etc.

For 2011 - the ACA has chosen not to officially conduct a Camaro Nationals show, but to have the MCC conduct the show instead (with ACA assistance) - backwards from previous years. Given this, the Camaro Nationals for 2011 are moved to Fredrick, Md. However, they are scheduled for the same weekend as the GM Nationals show in Carlisle, Pa.

I myself have attended the ACA shows (and thus the GM Nationals) in the past at Carlisle, and was planning to attend again this year. Given that I'm a Camaro guy, I was mainly interested in the Camaro's, but always loved seeing all the GM's at the show.

This year, I'm lost. Carlisle is pushing Camaro folks (on their website) to attend the GM Nationals, although the real ACA Camaro Nationals will be in Frederick, Md. Carlisle is stating that last year there were over 600 Camaros at the show - but in my opinion that was solely because it was the ACA Camaro Nationals show that was within the larger GM Nationals show (In reality, there were more Camaros at the GM Nationals show than all the other cars combined, because of the Camaro Nationals being held at Carlisle).

The MCC folks have mailed me a preregistration form and official invite to the Camaro Nationals in Fredrick, Md. I just don't know who's going where. I figure alot of Camaro folks will sign up for the Camaro Nationals and go to Fredrick Md this year, because it's the same invite and registration form that they (and I) have received for years. But I also assume that many Camaro folks will attend Carlisle out of habit - not noticing that the Camaro Nationals are no longer being held at Carlisle. And I also assume that many will be like myself, undecided - since although Camaro folks like seeing other GM cars (the relatives), but we also greatly look forward to seeing our blood brothers so-to-speak.

Anyway - I wanted to pass this info along to fellow TGO members so that they were informed of the 2011 changes. Both shows are scheduled for the June 24-26 2011 weekend.

The GM Nationals (Carlisle, Pa.) website is http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/gm-nationals/

The Maryland Camaro Club website is http://mdcamaroclub.com/

The American Camaro Association website is http://www.americancamaro.org/

If any of you have attended past GM Nationals shows at Carlisle, and own Camaros, I would greatly be interested in your opinions, and which show you would attend if you were going to attend this year.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

While its nice to see other type cars, Carlisles draw has gone to the dogs.
I've attended many a event at Carlisle for a number if years and the GM nats has been going down every year for the last 5 years.
Pontiac and Saturn are no longer which hurts, vendor numbers are down over 50% and without the Camaro's being there, the car attendance will be cut to less than half killing a smallish show even further.
The only cars that have strengthened in numbers is the tuner type GM platforms.
Also the Monte Nats will be held in York PA that same weekend as the Camaro's in Maryland which will further hamper Carlisle.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

thats retarded. why make peopel choose? its hot enough all summer to host the event during any other weekend. i would love to go back to carlisle, but if a majority of the camaros won't be returning, what is the point?

maryland isn't far, but there won't be as much of a draw for me either, i want to go to a few big shows, not a couple of small ones.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

But you must admit or realize, allot of folks think that when car clubs glom onto the Carlisle event, it looks cheap and cheesy. And folks in a car club want it to have its own main event, not a side show to GM Carlisle main event.

And Im one of them, I know a few small club that claim to be monster hugh, when all they do is gather in a parking lot at the GM Carlisle event and calim it as their own. LAME

Going head to head is a way to show em up, if its a success.

Though drag racing payouts bring the big boys, who attract the small boys.

How do their payout compare???

Well, Fredrick isn't as far away as I thought - it's supposed to be less than an hour drive - so I guess one could attend both. Given my tight funds this year, I may just skip it altogether.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

I hope everyone on the board knows that the camaro club is not the aggressor for this separation. And the fact that the camaro show was scheduled before the National event and then told to National before they scheduled their show. Carlisle could have simply scheduled it the next weekend but chose not to. I just joined the maryland camaro club because out of all the clubs i have seen over a few years. They seem to just do more cause they like hanging out and love their cars.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

Well - I was just letting others know what was going on - never suggested it was anyone's fault. I read where the ACA chose the Maryland club, so that says alot about the folks in Md. Carlisle has had the GM Nats that weekend for years, and the ACA show was part of it, so both parties are kinda set on that weekend. Besides, I suppose it's not that big a deal to see both given that Fredrick is only 1 hour from Carlisle - I was mistakenly under the impression it was farther when I first posted this. But it was nice having it all in one place.

I also assume that Carlisle may now be able to attract more "classics" now that there's not such a Camaro dominated presence - the years Ive been there were way less classic cars than one would imagine. Might turn out better for both parties in the end.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

I know Carlisle promotions was the fault of the Camaro club withdrawing.
And as I stated before the Camaro's even in the best attendance years the GM Nats had, were dam near 66% of the field. The classics never did show up in numbers of any kind and with Pontiac going under, those classic Pontiacs for the last 2 years that did show up are not.

Re: GM Nats Carlisle vs. Camaro Nats 2011

I don't usually post but I had to set some things rite. The Camaro Nationals were at Carlisle long before there was any GM nationals. The ACA was always the Host club running the show. The Maryland club was always there with a helping hand. I know there are some issues that both side dont want to budge on. I will leave that alone.. The reason the show is the same weekend was because most people plan their show weekend a year in advance. (Like I do). It would have made it hard for some to change the dates of vacations at work. Lets see if the dates change for next year. I know that most members from the Long Island Camaro club will be attending the Maryland show.
