I have installed and used them before, but thank *** I have a T5 in my thirdgen
They are a nice improvement over stock, but I like the B&M Quicksilver (remember the one in my '67?) better.

-Ratchet action prevents over-shifting, fells much firmer and you can hit it as hard as you like.
-The stock shifter which can very easily be pushed up to neutral when you meant to go to OD.
-Neutral is locked out.
-How about a gear indiactor that is lighted and actually shows where your stick is at? Unless you have the 91-92 shift plate w/ indicator

my 89 is lit up and i only have a problem shifting it from 1-2.. its a little hard and sometimes i slip into drive when racing.. but ive overcome that problem quite well..
guess that saves me a few hundred bux.. that can go to my garnished wages.. damn i hate that word.

I leave the shifter alone and set it in drive when im racing.. sometimes I'll shift it manually when i was a gear for a specific purpose.. but that's it.
aftermarket shifters for autos are a waste unless you have a manual valve body or something on a built tranny that you are supposed to shift yourself, or if your stock one is f*cked and you just want to replace it. They do look neat though.

I agree bro, but I think the biggest plus is the fact that you always have to baby your stock shifter and when you have a ratchet shifter, you can slam it around and generally beat the **** out of it.
Maybe that's why I like manual transmissions
