Try having 3 registrations due all around the same time lol and a smog done each year. Registration went up on everything, including the quad.

I'll say! I feel for ya Ron. It'll keep me away from buying anything newer for the time being anyway.

I wouldnt mind visiting Bristol to go to Thunder Valley racetrack
I love California but I have to somewhat agree with you. But you eastcoasters gotta put up with a lot of different weather we don't really get here in the West. They wanted people to move out here and because we all have cars they punish us with high registration and smog BS. haha. gotta love it.

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
They keep sneaking up the registration fees here in Texas every year, usually a few bucks at a time but this year the fee on my old T-bird (I'll get the bill for my other 2 vehicles later this year) was up about $6 to $78.xx. I guess Cali. is like a lot of cash strapped stares and they are push up fees wherever they can. I don't know how it is now, but when I live in South Carolina years ago you had to pay property tax on your car each year, I seem to remember it was well over $100 for a new car back in the '80s. I'm glad we don't have that tax here, it would hurt with 3 vehicles.

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
Yea, I've thought about leaving CA before, then I realized I'd rather put up with a major earthquake once every 30 years or so, than deal with dozens of tornadoes and hurricanes EVERY year. I guess it's the price you pay to live in the sunshine, er fogshine state.

I think I have the record for the thread so far. $714 to put my '92 RS in my name. That's not including smog or the fixes it took to pass smog. Just the rape-air, I mean repair was $6XX. The things I do for love...

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
well this is your first time registering it correct? it won't be that much every year. and your supposed to lie on the amount purchased for to help lower transferring fees. but if the car wasnt registered and not non-opped for a few years that drives the fee's up too

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
I just got mine, $93, !#*%!!. No smog this year, we are going to have to do something about these *B.S.* smog laws; like go back to the rolling smog exempt thing, if its 20 or 25 years old it doesn't have to be smogged ever again !

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
You guys are on the wrong coast - that's the problem. You pay $1 million for $150,000 houses, and $6+ for a $3 gallon of milk. Now I've never been to Cali myself, but I can't imagine the sunsets there justify the cost of living to that degree.
{Food for thought .... we do have things like indoor plumbing, air conditioning, alcoholic beverages, and topless beaches here on the "right" coast as well - and there's no threat of us falling into the ocean! AND - alot of us can swap in any damned motor we like, and still only pay $33 for registration and $10 for an inspection}

Re: $91.00 to register this mother
The other thing about these "laws" , my '88 camaro meets the 1988 standards for emissions, it didn't for the first check in 2010 (did on the second check) because they "tightened" the requirements - which is *B.S.* - the camaro is an 1988 not a 2010, and should not be "required" to meet the "standard" for a 2010, but for a 1988. (I call this their effort to "legislate away my camaro"; I wish they would "legislate a new one in MY budget").
