The longest car project....

I'm curious how many years some of you guys have gone without being able to drive your F-bodies. I've had mine in progress for what will be 5 years on Fri. 5 loooooong years and I can't freakin wait to get back into the drivers seat!

My Firebird has not been (legally) driven on the street since August of 1995. I bought it in '94 as a V6, did the 383 swap in the spring of '95, drove it about 1000 miles... and parked it for 10 years.

It is now licensed and insured again now that the body/paint work is done... but it hasn't seen the street yet because I keep upgrading things instead of just putting it back together.

My Moser 9-inch came today <schwing!>

Well, mines been apart for only 4 months after shattering the planetaries in the trans at the drag strip. Seems like four YEARS! The trans is now finished, but it cost me my Dart cylinder heads in trade. I needed an upgrade in heads anyway. After the new heads were installed, the camshaft was ordered to match. So I'm still in the process of getting clearances ironed out. Bill at Van Senus and Mike at Pro Auto have been helpful, but things are tight around the holidays and cash is hard to come by. So it's looking like Springtime before fire in the wire. There's no way I could wait 4 years! I'm sure it will be well worth it to you when it's all done!

i have had my car for over a year now and have never even driven the thing yet! I had hoped to have it on the street this past summer but do to people that wont do their jobs it has been sitting in a paint shop (pretty much untouched) since april. I will hopefully have it out spring 06..however I dont really see that happening if it stays where it is much longer

nikki....time to steal your car back. and just end up paying someone else to paint it. 9 months for a paintjob is rediculous especially if it just sits and sits without being worked on.

I haven't driven or even started my car since Jan 2001- it had pretty much fallen apart by then but I'm holding on to it until I can afford to get it how I want it and that will take a long, long time

Car has never been legally on the road since I bought it(like 2 years ago maybe). Drove it total about 40 miles with the POS 305. Once to the emission test site, in which it never even made it there. Cars been stationary with no engine/tranny for the past 3-4 months. Currently building a L98 and overhauling the tranny. My guess is it'll be done come summer. All in all its not too bad.

It seems like the majority of us on the board aren't actually able to drive our cars LOL!
Do I miss my car though! Here are a couple pics of her in the operating room where she's been undergoing surgery for the past 5 years now.

WOW. I thought I was one of only a few that have gone a little over 2 years now. I started when I was 19 and am now 21. If all goes well she should be done by the spring. If I can wire up this damn Painless harness then it might be done in the dead of winter So either way I am exited for winter to get here, so it can leave. I have pretty much built the whole car with this websites help. I got my motor from a member that made it hundreds of miles away. My tranny came that way too. haha. Not to mention random little things. I am going to make a video of the car when it is done to honor all the help I have got from this site. Here is a little pic that shows how it looked a couple weeks ago.

i got my project car in may of 04. The plan is to have it going by the summer of 06. I have just about everything for it, just have to get the rest of a loan paid off first. That will happen the first of the year. All in good time. It has neither a heart or brain so to speak since i bought it.

The last time I drove my car was last year. I had the transmission replaced and the oil was leaking on the clutch. SO I took the engine out and got caught in the "might as well's".

No idea when I'll get to drive it again.
I am almost of the mind to go get another one and just drive it the way it is. 5-speed with t-tops anyone?

You just described my whole project in that one statement "might as well" LOL! Driving down 95th St. 5 years ago the drivers side axle cracked off right at the flange sending the flange/brake rotor/rim&tire flying off 100 yds away and the car in a spin where all I saw was sparks! What began as just building a new rear end turned into doing the suspension, and the Baer brakes (I already had)....then might as well do heads/cam, then let's build a new 383 etc.......... LOL!

ok guys!! i need opinions..you all know the deal with my car and it getting painted..well the painter said that he wants to spray the primary color on the camaro, send it home for us to put back together, and then he wants it to come back to his shop to have the stripes put on and so he can touch up anything that we might have fkd up putting the car back together. Normally i would say that this is a great idea because that way everything will be perfect when the car is done, but my concern is that if i give him my car back~ i will never see it again lol...since he has already had it for 9months without paint even going on it yet... so what do you think i should do?

9 months is insane...my opinion is to find a new shop that cares about making the customer happy. I would not spend $0.01 at a shop that dicks you around that much. There are plenty of good paint places...you may have to drive a little further than this one, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Nikole u young pup :-)

Gonna let u in on some things that I have learned.

One is nothing is truly free.

The other is great things take time.

A combination of the two is building cars lol It doesnt matter how well u plan, who you have help or do things or what type of car it is, it always ends up taking a minimum of twice as long and twice as much money :-)

Everyone has to agree on that one lol
