Re: powder coating

I think with headers they have to be ceramic coated. powder coating will not stand the heat.

Its going to burn off. powder coating is good up to like 400 to 500 F . I know on rice burners you sould not put powder coating on the valve covers if it has a header.
But if you think it can be done thats cool. Just trying to save u a buck.

Re: powder coating

i know that, lol, i was just saying that some of it is good up to 500, some to 1500, but you said that powder coating is baked at 400-500 degrees, so i was saying it should work, i would have to ask an expert or someone that has tried, i dont know if you tried or your powder coating, and not saying you dont know, actually just wanting to know for good for myself cuz some guy is supposto do my headers

Re: powder coating

If you are getting your headers coated black it is just a black ceramic coating. When I got my headers coated they asked, "silver or black".

I know engine paint says 500 but I highly doubt exhaust manifold paint is rated at anything under 1200, but most at 1500. How much to powder coat a tpi intake,,,, everything except fuel rails

Re: powder coating

I know this thread is two months old, but I must add to it. I have had my headers powder coated by one of the best in town. He did not recommend powder coating and i insisted, lol. He recommended the ceramic coating and another process, but it was much more expensive.

I should have listened!!! Within 1 year my headers looked like crap. He even used the "high temp" coating instead of regular powder coating. I guess you get about 100-200 deg more protection, but it DIDN'T help it.

SO, PLEASE only use ceramic coating on headers. Y-pipes can handle high temp powder coating as they are somewhat cooler and my y-pipe still looks really good.

Just thought I'd add some info from experience.

Re: powder coating

Holy cow you're in Plano, IL? My aunt and uncle are from there. Small world.

Anyway, I have a set of stock gold "honeycomb" rims with the aluminum ridge. I asked how much it would be to blast them and then do a silver/aluminum powder coat finish. They said it would be approx $65 each wheel maybe less.

2-tone would be slightly more. It's best to call your local shop.

Re: powder coating

I know LaSalle-Peru has a few good shops and I am sure Naperville, etc does too. I would venture toward LaSalle-Peru. A little more distance, but probably better prices.

My aunt and uncle live at Fox Lake now. They used to live north on Little Rock Rd.

I will ask my father-in-law where he takes his stuff. He's in LaSalle-Peru.

Yep well getting into it. Alot of people have been asking about it at the shop. So started looking into it. Got a little setup here in my garage. Can do smaller stuff. But I'm looking into getting a bigger oven. to do frames, bumpers, wheels,(I can do wheels now but 1 at a time) So I hope in the next month i will order one than it takes about a month for them to built it.

Re: powder coating

Could you give me a quote to replace a right rear quarter panel and a respray on a 90 full size jimmy?I had a little offroading accident last Friday.I'm going to replace both doors and the front fenders myself but the quarter panel and paint are a little beyond my ability.I don't know what the color is called. It's the original color and it's a real dark blue.
