This week on Pinks; 87 Firebird vs 88 'stang

Anybody know the players, or have any background info?

Text from site:

"This week on PINKS:

Gary Penn – MI (1987 Pontiac Firebird) vs. Chris Ciolek - AZ (1988 Ford Mustang)

Hard Core Racing from Detroit comes to town to take on Phoenix’s own AMP Performance. Tempers fly and the heat is on as the Pontiac Firebird team calls out the top local ‘stang shop. It’s a best three out of five drag race…for pink slips.

Sweet, Pinks ends up being pretty lame most of the time but I'll be sure to tune in to see the thirdgens do battle. I think the Fbodies in general have faired pretty well on the show so far, I've seen several episodes where they win overall, one tie, and no loses for Fbodies so far. Has anyone seen a Fbody lose on there yet (the whole 3 outta 5 thing, not a single run)? Just curious.

I'm curious to know if anyone on TGO knows the players?

Driver, car, shop, suppliers, etc,

Should be an interesting run, nonetheless.

i know a couple of guys on there. there was a episode that had a mustang on there and the guy came back (different show) with a white 4th gen fbody. the shop name was ELD in maryland. his name was brain bassone, nice guy they have another killer turbo stang coming out soon. Brain started ELD as a mustang shop only around here and got into everything else. he did in fact lose the 4th gen fbody in the show but knew the guy and got it back. I also know someone that will be on it this season, he is shown in the previews. big guy has on a blue shirt in the show. they show him a split second on the preveiw. he will be doing the negotiating on that show. i dont know what they are running or anything its been a while scince i talked to him.

I will be at the taping of the one this saturday at MIR. Don't know who's in it yet, but I'll try to jump in front of a camera, or, better yet, strategically place my car so it is seen on the show.....

I've been by AMP before and I don't generally like the guys that work there, have heard plenty of horror stories about them too. Since they film almost all of those (maybe it's all of them now) here in Phoenix, a lot of our local boys are on the show. I know Geoff Raicer from Full-race and he's a really cool guy who knows his stuff. I see Charles from Pro-dyno quite a bit when I visit my buddies who work in the shop next to him, so I'm practically a celebrity already

It's on sunday at 5:00, not saturday, after the E.T. race. I'll probably stick around for a while to watch it but I'm sure it will be lame like most of the others. I just like watching idiots who know nothing about drag racing.

It was on last night. I don't normally watch it, but was out in the garage working on my wife's Bonneville, and turned it on since I wouldn't totally waste my time watching it.

The Stang spanked the 'Bird pretty good. Then broke.

Next. . .

(I wouldn't call this "drag racing". It's match racing. It's fundamentally subjective, with a bunch of sandbagging and grandstanding. I'll take bracket racing any day - Show up, put up, or shut up.)

Also, there is no way to tell if someone jumps the gun. With an "arms down" start, how can you tell if someone redlights. I think they should at least use a tree. Still was an interesting episode though. Yea, the Bird did get spanked. I wonder how much lighter the stang was, as compared to the bird. Hardcore Racing said that they put a car together just for Pinks. Check out Hardcore's website. Pretty nice shop, with their own engine, and chassis dynos. They do alot of real fast LS1 stuff, too. Oh yea, nice looking girls on their web as well.

I watched this the other night. I always thought if you are going to build a bird to race, you'd atleast get rid of the heavy rear wrap around wing. I also agree that the show needs a tree on the line.

How heavy can the wing be? I have a factory wrap around wing on my 92 Formula, and it is a feather weight. Maybe that year is heavier, but being on the rear should not hurt performance.
