Welcome to the Gale Banks Twin Turbo Club

I just bought an older Gale Banks Twin Tubo Kit for a blow thru carb setup. Its an older kit and I will be upgrading the turbos to something a little bigger. It is complete 2 turbos, exhaust manifolds, wastgates, heat shields for between the turbos and valve covers, exhaust turbine heat shields, Intake manifold, 800 Holley double pumper, carb pressure box with blow off valve, intake tubes from turbos to carb pressure box, exhaust tubing, oil feed and drain lines for turbo, pressure lines for wastegates and carb and manifold.
The Intake is a Edelbrock Torker and has the passages milled in the carb to intake mounting flange to pressurize the throttle shafts with holes drilled in the carb base. All I have to do is figure out how all the hoses hook up to the carb pressure box and the three pressure swithces on the intake and the carb. I need to clean the kit up, rebuild the carb, and get bigger turbos, then water injection or an intercooler or both. Looking for some nice streetable HP!!

Now if anyone knows where I can get a copy or diagrams or tunning setup one one of these older Banks Kits let me know.

I know there were some owners of the older Gale Banks twin turbo carb setups so if you would share seom info and help a 74 second gen owner out PLEASE!!!!

Those are not banks manifolds… from the pictures they look like modified calloway manifolds.

I agree, those are tubular manifolds, banks uses cast log style manifolds. The turbo flange and wastegate arrangement is the same as on the banks manifolds. I have never seen tubular banks manifolds, don't know what they are.

That is not a pic of a Banks kit (although similar design). Banks def. used cast manifolds . I supposedly bought the last old pair off the display in '99, or 2000. Till they came out with the new F/I stuff a couple of years ago. Try www.bankspower.com/twin-turbo-products.cfm. Further down that page click on Details, Twin-Turbo System. Very nice picture of manifolds !

The Callaway manifolds were tubular (weld-els, actually), but they had the turbos placed low (by the rear of the oilpan). Maybe this kit is a combination of the banks plenum and custom made manifolds.

Andris, with CNC ported Banks manifolds...

Yes, for most of the corvette setups, but I have seen a few early calloway manifolds with front mounted turbos, usually matched up with assorted carbureted pieces (not that I know of any application that Calloway every made that that turbo location would fit or that was carbureted, which led me to question if they were really calloway, but they were constructed identically…)

Either way, like I said and looks like we’re all agreed, those aren’t banks manifolds

Re: Welcome to the Gale Banks Twin Turbo Club

The early ones were tubular manifolds. If i did not have a few articles with pics showing the manifolds I would have doubted to. It shows we can build our own out of weldels or thick plumbing tubing.

Re: Welcome to the Gale Banks Twin Turbo Club

Hi Guys

Just wanted to say hi to you all. I Happen to own a Bank's Twin turbo Camaro. I purchased the kit back in 1985 directly from Gale Banks. It is installed on my 1982 Camaro. The exaust manifolds above are exactly the same as mine, therefor they are original early model Banks manifolds.
You can see more pics of my car here.

Re: Welcome to the Gale Banks Twin Turbo Club

twinturboman

Nice car!!!!!

I bought my kit used and it came with everything. It also came with a stainless steel water tank for water injection. The hobbs switches open up a pressure line at a set amount of boost to force water into the front of the turbo compressor. I read that only the second stage kit and up had this. Any information on this? I need to get my on the car and running. Do you have any ideas on going to a slightly bigger turbo, a turbo about physically the same size with enought clearance on the valve covers but one that will produce a little more flow.

Re: Welcome to the Gale Banks Twin Turbo Club

I don't know about a bigger turbo, but I found the best way to get more boost is to tune the exhaust system correctly. To little flow will decrease allowable boost as will open to much flow. I'm running dual 2.5" exhaust pipes through two Super Trapp mufflers. I don't have the water injection kit on my car. I tried experimenting with an injection system but found it gave inconsistent results. I use an MSD boost retard system to control the ping.
Hope this helps you out.
