Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

So when I started to tear apart the car way back in 2002 and build my own motor I always had forced induction on the plate. Heads, gaskets, hardware, internals, and compression were carefully considered. Then the first 427 failed in spectacular fashion and the car sat for a while. In came the 377 build. Once again I took all in to consideration, but as with most car projects things just kept popping up and the budget would never be there for the imagined engine combo. I finally got the motor combination sorted out last year and took to the streets. 9.3XX:1 compression and all, and had a good time with a decent running car. Made two Power Tours. Well everything fell together last week and the hopefully all goes well and my vision will be imagined.

Had a long convo with the guys at vortech and they thought the V3 T-trim would be a good match for my combination and would allow me to start out easy and add parts as I got more adventurous. They say this design is very effecient and does not need intercooling until double digits and at full tilt is good for 22 psi at 1500CFM or so.

Guess will see if my calculatin works out and this thing makes steam!

Got some plumbing to do but it is coming together. Not ideal but it should not be long term either.

Racetronix High Z 50lbs injectors. Supposedly suppose to be the stuff. Finally get to see what my Holley HV 285 lpm pump can do!

Any one need a cast aluminum air cleaner. I will make you a deal on it. Since they no longer make the TPI kit at Vortech they suggested the univeral kit and this comes in it. I don't need it.

Very nice! But why not clock the bonnet facing toward the drivers side, this way all you need to run is a 90 degree elbow and straight pipe, as opposed to wrapping it around on the passenger side. Is it because your planning on using that space for the supercharger's air intake? Either way, it's looking great, get her done Dave....

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

The throttle linkage hits the bonnet on the drivers side. I looked at many ways to try and change it, but in the end I think this will be easiest. My goal next year will be an intercooler so this should be temporary, but you know how that goes.

Trying to decide if I need a BOV or not, any one got any input?

It's always a good idea to run a blow off valve with a supercharger, because the resistance of the air when that throttle body closes will not only cause unnecessary stress (pressure) on the supercharger, but will only aid in belt slippage. Go with an ebay blowoff valve, they're cheap insurance in the long run.

while on ebay type in rfl bov ive used a few of them and they are cheap move tons of air and sound great. be awar that rfl stands for "really ****ing loud" so if u want a quiet bov this one isnt for you. but it is the best working cheap bov on ebay

welcome aboard. I've seen the inside of your car as they installed the stereo in INDY. They sure picked a HOT f/n day to work on a stereo install!!!! I've read some of your other posts and if i'm correct this isn't your first boosted vehicle right?

good luck!

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

Yea this is not my first boosted vehicle but my first centrifugal and boost with potential :-)

So I made it back out to the garage tonite. It is starting to come together. The fittings arent as squared up and nice fitting as I would like them. The 180 pipe was a bear to make but turned out alright. Lot of fabbing hammering and smooting to getet a manderel looking bend back after welding. I still need to move the catch can. Man it would be nice if I could get some powder on all this stuff!

I purchased a BOV. I think I am going to put it in the pipe the crosses over the manifold. Got a 50mm that should let the boost out sufficiently. I am hoping the bends don't kill me to much. Did not see many other options, and I am still thinking what the intercooler routing will look like.

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

Yea trying to keep all the amenities and make a go fast car with a GEN1 SBC v8 can have its challenges. I did some maintainence on the AC a couple weeks back and it took me a couple days because once the dryer and evaporator were out I had access to so much I did some cleaning and changed the plugs:-). I actually switched to the electric truck cruise control so I could remote locate it, but I may take it off all together. I never use it.

Someday I hope to get around to smoothing the engine bay just a ton of stuff to remove.

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

You've got enough room for a small intercooler between the headunit and coffee can you call a TB. Worth a good bit of power with the lower IATs

I was wondering whatever happened to that funny intake youd found

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

I have been using the "coffee can" intake for a couple years now:-) It actually has not been to bad. Idle is a little tricky due to the fact that just a crack of the throttle blades makes a huge difference in air. Thought about putting it on roller bearings but we will see. I have it working pretty good. Hopefully boost agrees with it. I thought about doing a similar project as yours, cause you can find seriously powerful chargers like you have for a good price. In the end I chickened out and took the easier route. I think the coffe can is the only way to go for big port vortecs. They say boost is not the best with vortecs, but I have not scene many large port, bigger CI, vortec combos. With large port vortecs the exhaust side is fixed so I am hoping boost with decent port design and good quench caracteristics, gets me something pretty cool.

NA it revs out to 6200 pretty hard. I have not made top of fourth full throttle because it is 120+, and I need a decent stretch.

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

Well I spent the day measuring cutting swearing and everything else that comes with custom part making, but it has paid off. Talk about 20lbs in a 5lb bag. I got the air intake in today. Not many options, Maybe later i will relocate the battery but the new stereo system will need some modding so this should work for now. It is better than the setup that came with the charger that put this small air filter right over the headers sticking out of the back of the SC.

The next thing that was a bit of a trick was the new upper radiator hose. I was not sure how I was going to handle this. I messed around with some PVC and cut up radiator hoses for a while until I got a routing I liked. Then I thought long and hard about what I could use to replace the PVC, and thats when I came up with a 1.5 inch trap from a kitchen sink. 8 buck from Menards already chromed and made out of brass. It came out pretty good I think.

Tommorow everything gets filled with fluids, the new injectors will go in and a new tune will be loaded and then hopefully a drive.

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

Went for a ride tonite. Not to shabby. My Map sensor does not seem to be reading correctly or I am getting now boost. I believe I am getting boost for three reasons. 1st and 2nd gear are a little silly. My dipstick tube was a little raised when I got back.

I am going to try the sensor off the vette as i know it works and I need to go through my crank case vent system. I had absolutely no issues NA so I think I am passin pressure into the crank case somehow.

Need to datalog as I was getting on the lean side for boost I was seeing values of 13:1 and so on. Which is less than ideal.

I actually wish the blower was louder, and that it did not sound like broken emissions equipment at idle:-(

All in all it is alive and my base tunes work good enough to get around town. THe cam surge at low RPM needs a little work as I get the mini-burn outs idling around sometimes. That sounds gross :-)

Re: Been wanting to post here for a long time!!!!

Well after some test runs and tunning I decided to make things a little more robust. A BOV was a definet must as the throttle shut stuff sounded awful. I also have T-calmps on the way, to help get things cranked down on the intake. Another thing that became a little nuts was the amount of vacuum lines that I had, so I installed a manifold to try and make sense of the mess.

Hopefully next week I can get it buttoned up for some fall driving. Next step will be to get everything looking pretty.
