Please keep us updated. I yanked the motor finally in my '86 to get it ready for the exact same thing you are doing.

I'm particularly interested in your oil system setup.

This gent cut the trunk out and raised the floor of it to make more room for the RMT. Genius if you ask me!!!

Keep posting your progress...

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

Dont really need twin scroll for a remote mount since you will likely be running 1 pipe to the turbo, from a ypipe in the factory location. Twin scroll is nice for pressure pulses from individual banks of exhaust tied into 1, like if you did a front mount and had left bank into 1 side of turbine and right bank into the other....or if you did twin turbo where you have some cylinders feed left side of the twin scroll, and other cylinders on oposite firing orders feed right side. Helps spool the turbo abit better. With all 8 into 1 pipe, you dont have alot of pressure pulses from firing order, so you could have just got a regular housing. No big deal tho, just thought I'd point that out.

Oil system, figure out how to get oil back there and then use a turbowerx scavenge pump to get it back to the pan. I plan to use a turbo werx pump on my car since my drains wont get back to the pan in a suitable angle.

Other than that, happy turboing. Make a mount for the turbo to bolt to, then run the exhaust into it so the turbo is supported by the car. Use a piece of flex pipe in the exhaust somewhere to allow for movement.

Getting cold side piping back to the front of the car is going to be the hardest part. Mainly for ground clearance issues. I think a single 2.5" to the front will work but seems like it would be pretty small for such a long run. 3" may be better but hard to say. 3" under car is alot harder to fit than 2.5" so thats a concern.

Theres more room to run it back up the stock exhaust location, but that will radiate heat onto the cold side piping, thus killing the effects of the cold charge. Intercooler up front would help that alot but that requires abit more plumbing.

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

I would have to agree with Orr89RocZ on this one. I've bean collectong everything I neeed to do the same thing. An will be useing 3in aluminized tubing to run the pressed air back to the intake.. And running it up the tunnel is a good place. but you would need a different trans mount .
The turbowerks does work good but it likes a cooler to run great.
You also should be able to run a bit more boost than what you are thinking. An intercooler is not as important on this set up as it is on most conventual turbo designs. That long run of the exhaust makes the turbo itself a run cooler. and the intake tubes act as a cooler of sorts
And I bet anything there is going to be a lot of nay sayers on this. Some people don't like rear mounted turbo set up. But thats only becouse they don't understand them or the power you can get from them.
So good luck on your build

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

I wanted to do rear twin mount on my setup but could not figure a way out to run the pipes. Just way too many pipes under the car. It would be too heavy and no clearance unless I ran cold side thru the interior of the car. Wasnt about to switch to a single 91-94mm either but that would be pretty bad

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

Orr89RocZ,
How are you running your exhaust? are you running it down the trans tunnel?
With a twin rear mount set up you really only nead to run a single tube back to the intake

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

Right now I run duals down the stock location, right side of the driveshaft if you are facing the rear end of the car. Just like how stock single comes down and over the axle.

What I wanted to do with twins is to have the pipes come down either side of the driveshaft, so theres a pipe over the axle on each side, drivers and passenger side for both turbos. I'd plan on having cold side come together in a single 3" pipe but that seems small for the amount of airflow I'd be flowing over such a long span. I'd want to run a single 3.5" if I could. Just cant fit that under the car. Oh well, i'm deadset on relocating the turbos behind the headlights to keep them up in the engine bay but under the hood this time.

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

I think 3in would be the right side. Remember just how much pie you're talking about running back to the intake. If I'm right THe smaller piping here would help keep the air pressure up that you'll need. The twin set ups I've seen on the corvettes end up running single 3in back to the intake.
And if your going to run dual exhaust down the trans tunnel well now you have the room to run the pressure piping in the place of the old exhaust. well that what I would do

Funny you say this because i was thinking how that would turn out last night for my build lol

My question is, everyone keeps saying how can they efficiently get the oil to the turbo. What does STS use to do theres? Can we not copy the design for third gens?

Its not because people "don't understand them or the power you can get from them", it's just because it's somewhat of a logistical nightmare. Its easier to just mount one up front after you get to a certain point, and you lose a little effectiveness way back there too. They still work, and you can still get great power out of them, but let's be honest here, they're a way to fit a turbo onto a car without all the trouble of special manifolds and squeezing a bunch of turbos under the hood and finding room for all the piping. But finding room for all the piping for a rear mount is difficult too, just in a different way.

But definitely good luck with putting it together, I cant wait to see how it's all done and how well it works. Always cool to see turbo v8s rolling around

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

I have a few questions for you:
What pump did you use and where did you mount the return line to?
The oil fill cap just doesn't seem to me to be a good place. Your dumping alot
of oil in there.
Also what are you using for a pcv. or venting of the crank case. do you have some sort of catch can?
How many miles are on your engine?
One last one do you have any pics yet of your set up?
I sure would like to see just what you did before you take it all apart.

Ya the t70 hits right at idle even when on the street the turbo hit's right when i crack the throttle blades it's instant responce it comes on hard right from about 1500 then we just run it out the back door 5500 maybe 5800 but it pulls so hard we have to let out of it but thats it for now all up date asap

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

Now that you know it was leak down past the rings...
Wouldn't it be beneficial to use "Total Seal Piston Rings"
http://www.summitracing.com/search/B...c&autoview=SKU

Looking back I wish that I put these in my 383... what's another $300+ bucks right?

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

Hey so I know I'm a little late to the party lol but this is how I pretty much pictured my setup, nice to see it actually works. It's a great looking job man!

One of my questions is how did you go about the tune for it? I noticed you had the MAF still right? I read before on a post that our stock ones can't handle it is that true? And another question which blow off valve did you go with? I think I missed it in one of the posts or something.

Again good job man! Can't wait to start my setup now lol

Re: getting ready any input t70 rear mount

So its pretty much same tune that you had before you added the turbo? And so its just a stock MAF just no screens or what? I have 30lb injectors in the T/A right now..

I can imagine how it pulls especially spooling that quick? Dang lol
