Re: 1983 Z28 H.O

I installed one of those when my car was a few days old in 83. It was described as a "Pace Car Speedometer".

Re: What type of paitn was used on 3rd gen F-bodies?

Based on my experience with my Van Nuys 83, I would say it was a single stage, based on the way it deteriorated. Lacquer or enamel, I don't know offhand.

I've heard about that too. All associated points were lubed when I installed the clutch/trans.

Been doing some more research on this issue. It sure is hard to get reliable info on the theory of this type of system. Sofa, you're right on the money about the preload of the bearing against the...

Re: z28 pace car speedo

That speedometer was not available from the factory. It's a service replacement originally used on 82 pace cars. I bought one for my 83 when they were still available new in 83.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Issues

My experience with this type of clutch release system, hydraulic or mechanical, was that the throwout bearing should never be constantly turning. Isn't that the case here? That's why I figured what...

Re: Instrument Cluster LEDs?

I second the SuperBrightLED site. They seem to be a better quality than the cheapest ones you get eBay. One problem I have found with cheap ones is that the LED part will twist off when installing...

Re: 84 L69 Clutch Size?

Good to know, thanks. I really couldn't see a problem in changing just the disc but also changing the pressure plate is obviously the correct way to do it. No sense in doing it half-assed.

Once I saw the 84 I am working on was identical to mine I felt confident it wasn't bad body work. So far, it looks like up to '91 based on BBCSwap's car.
