Pulling the compressor would not affect the heater controls. But if you disconnected any of the wires above the evaporator or blower motor you might have issues.

I'm pretty sure by '90 that motor had a serpentine belt system, so all you have to do is buy a smaller belt and presto. :)

And you are going to want a different fuel tank to go from carb to FI. ...
