3.1 to 4.3

how much of a difference is there between the two V6's, i was thinking of changing my 3.1 out for a 4.3 V6, can i do this?thanks

To switch in a 4.3 you will need the trans for the 4.3, the wiring harness and ECU.More or less it is equal to dropping in a v8.

As with any engine swap you have to be willing to spend lots of time and be patient as it gets working correctly. If your looking for raw power the V8 is the way to go now if your looking ot be different like msot of us the 3.8 and 4.3 would rock. Personaly I would try and find a 3.8 turbo or build that 4.3 and super charge it... Have fun

I also wanted to do this but found out from the smog technician that it won't pass smog laws but it would pass smog though. The reason why it would be an illegal smog issue is b/c that engine is not in the same classification as a passenger car b/c it was never offerred for a GM passenger car, only the trucks. I don't know how different Texas is compared to CA when it comes to smog laws. I was also told that the engine would just not clear the strut towers as well

That sounds like a cool idea, but very time consuming aslo. Have fun.
