Anyone do grille swaps?

I've searched the threads, but never found an exact answer to what I'm looking for. I have the grille that reads camaro in the middle, however, I have the stock fog lights the car came with. My car is an 87 IROC.

I've been interested in the louvered grille the RS/Z28 comes with, and I want to know if it'll fit over the fog lights with no prob (looks like it'll fit over the grille I currently have with no problem, or so that's what I think). I want to keep the fog lights on, as I don't mind them being covered up.

All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, and happy New Year!

If it doesn't fit over the fog lights just take them off. Your engine will thank you for it as it will run a bit cooler without those restrictions blocking the already small grill area. I think you will have to remove your original grill to install the RS one as I believe they use the same mounting holes. The grill you like is a RS only piece and was never installed on IROC's or Z28's.

I have fog lights, and what made the biggest difference for getting air to the engine was putting on an air dam. If you have fogs, they are a must.

don't put the louvered grill on an IROC... it would look cheap

91 1LE: Ahh, ok. I thought they did come on the Z28 (w/o foglight) option?

58mark: Thanks for the advice. What kind of air dam did you put on? Custom or bought from somewhere?

Re: Anyone do grille swaps?

Ahh my bad. I thought you were talkin about this:
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...mairboxes.aspx

I agree, it does make a difference, however, one thing I don't like is it sits low, and when I go over a speed bump, I gotta crawl it to prevent scraping.

What's your take on something like that (above link)? I've been interested in something like that for awhile, but it's a lil on the pricey side.

EDIT: btw, I read the restoration page you put up of the 58 you're working on, and I have to say, it's coming out quite beautiful. It's an swesome feeling/experience to be working side by side with your father on a restoration project. My Dad has got a '71 chevy cheyenne pickup which has been around since I was 4, and that's something I've always wanted to help him work on. Going on trips in that truck was really special because I got to hear the nice rumble the 350 gave out. Heck, without that truck, I probably wouldn't be into cars/trucks like I am nowadays. I wish you and your Dad the best of luck on that project and definitely keep the page updated!

And much like you and your Dad have a project going on, I want to try and involve my Dad on helping me fix my car, even if I know I can do it myself. You're never too old to learn new things, much like you're never too young to gain a new experience.

Re: Anyone do grille swaps?

thanks for the word about the car, it's a labor of love, that's for sure....

I'm not familiar with the thing in the link... don't really know how it works, or if it's worth the money.

yeah, the air dam scrapes sometimes, but it's tough plastic and doesn't seem to be bothered too much by it.... if it gets too messed up i'll just buy another one, they aren't expensive or hard to find.

Re: Anyone do grille swaps?

ive beat the crap out of my air dam ever since i bought mine in 08, it held up in az and ive found its a pretty good snow plow up here in WA too lol

theyre pretty tough so dont worry about it, as for that box hawks is selling id advise against it if you wanna keep the fog lights/ go with the louvered grille (i advise against that btw, looks ghetto) its a huge PITA during monsoon season, just make sure your lower air dam is good and intact and call it a day, if its runnin too hot for ya just pick up some water wetter, i used it in mine all year down there, had to drain it out for up here tho lol

good luck, if you need any more help ill be in AZ come saturday, ill be with chris (birdtojag) a good chunk of my time
