Nose Dive and Pull on Decelleration?

I have an 87 Camaro SC with a 383 and when I accellerate the front end comes up nice and solid and level. It's one of those things that I like about the car.

What I don't like is when I back-off and begin breaking. The nose would naturaly come down but it seems to be more of a dive than I would like. Plus it wants to pull to the right ------- Don't like that!

Under normal driving this nose drive is not noticable although the braking stops well but kind of a wishy-washy feeling.

After I get the posi-rear installed front brakes will definately be next, if for no other reason than assurance.

I bought the car about 9 months ago and it was tied up about half that time with the engine build and swap. So, I don't have many miles on it and so far I've done nothing to the front end.

Does anything obvious jump out at you - Springs, Shocks, Bushings or Sway Bar, etc.? Could anything besides Brakes contribute to the pull?

Thanks,

The brake dive is probably because your back brakes are not working, or not working well at least. Jack up the back of the car in a safe place and support on stands with the back wheels off the ground. Start the engine and put the car in gear. see if the back brakes are working well to stop the wheels.

Also installing a shorter than stock torque arm will increase front end dive durring braking, but not particularly bad. Weak Struts/shocks can also cause this, but you should notice if they are bad during other times than just braking. Check your back brakes first.

If it pulls to one side durring braking, and you have checked the pads on both sides and they are ok, then you probably have a colapsed, rubber brake hose, a metal brake line with a flat spot or kink, or some other obstruction in the brake lines or a sticky caliper. Pulling to one side is almost always a front brake problem.
