Installed Founders Strut Mounts today
I installed my new Founders Performance strut mounts today. I ran into a bit of an issue. Actually its more of a question. I took measurements on the strut location before dissasembly. After i installed the mounts i moved my struts back to the original locations using these measurements. Not perfect but good enough to get me by until i can align it. The Question is this: The strut looks like it will hit the body since it is shifted back. The body of the strut is overlapping the hole in the strut tower. Since it was going to overlap anyhow, i shifted the struts about as far back as they would go for ***** and Giggles. I was curious how it would affect stability. I only drove it a few miles but it felt pretty stable. A picture is attached. I'm pretty sure the bump stop will bottom before the strut hits the tower but i would llike to know others experiences

Re: Installed Founders Strut Mounts today
Thanks for the suggestion. In the picture they are as far back as the mounts will allow. I did that just to experiment. In the correct location or at least in the ball park they still overlap a bit. I'm curious if anyone knows if this is an actual problem. It seems like the bump stops will bottom before the strut but I'm not sure. The struts will move forward again after a fresh alignment but I don't know that they won't overlap. I want to get as much positive caster as is practical.

I just installed mine today and found out that my kyb struts aren't compatible with their bearing

for the OP, you have them set wrong, since they are taller than stock, your measurements may be skewed a bit, you should get an alignment anyway.

Dust cover removed. At the end of the strut threads where the strut becomes thicker to slide into the bearing, it is to thick to slide on

Ok after a coffee break I went back and inspected the setup for some reason there was a washer installed under my factory dust cover. After removal it fit perfect. So drop zone springs and camber plates installed checked off now engine install

im running umi strut mounts and running kyb shocks... you have to get rid of the factory type plastic boot or else you will have issues... i just got a rubber shock boot from a truck and it worked perfect for me....

Yes, it is left open. I did the same thing, just leave enough of it after cutting so that the top of the boot touches the top of the strut mount when it is uncompressed. It works fine. Technically you could run the strut with no boot or shield and it would be ok. Just think of all of the back hoes and such that have exposed hydraulics that get splashed with mud dirt rocks whatever all day.
