OEM 700r4 trans mount HELP !!

I had 3 of the 4 nuts come loose inside the trans / chassis fraame when I reinstalled my transmission. Now I only have one bolt tightened up and three bolts on but loose and spinning.

Has this happened to anyone ?
If so, what was your fix ?

The nut on the back side broke off or came un-welded.

Re: OEM 700r4 trans mount HELP !!

Yes it happens all the time. Quite routine.

Best way to fix it, is to pop the front seats out, peel back the carpet, take about a 1" hole saw to the floor right above them, get that STOOOOPID chinesium crap out of there, and put a regular flange or captive-washer nut in there instead, maybe even with a nice thick extra back-up washer to keep from tearing the holes out any worse than they already are. You can get suitable nuts at about any parts store. Then put plastic hole plugs in the holes.

What "it"?

Why not? What's the big deal?

Takes less time than jacking the car up, let alone crawling under it. 3 minutes TOPS, if you're slow like me, and if you stop for another cold one in between every nut, besides. I'm not even sure how you could make it take that long, I'm just giving it the benefit of the doubt. Probably more like 90 seconds.

Re: OEM 700r4 trans mount HELP !!

If I remember correctly, the part that strips or comes unwelded is just a piece of spotwelded inplace flatstock with 3 holes in it that are threaded with the Xmember bolts that GM slams into them during assembly.

Mine is a 1987 GTA. I know I have the washers because when they broke loose you could hear them spinning inside the frame.
