EBay purchase KYB Excel-G strut issues
I purchased my KYB Excel-G struts part number 236001. I received them today and got part number EX236001 and there labeled EX-2 not GR-2. I contacted KYB and they indicated I was not there part number. So the question is did I buy knock-off struts or just Old stock that KYB didn't have in there system. I did some googling and could not find any info.

what is the part number on the actual part. sometimes vendors put their out numbers on the outside of the box for their own records

was the price significantly lower than what you'd pay at places like Summit?
then they are likely knockoffs, and you should have known that when you ordered them because if something seems too cheap for what it is, then it's probably not the thing you thought you were ordering.

I did just find the the EX236001 part # listed on streetperformance.com website listed as KYB Excel-G, which I believe was the predessor to the GR-2. Box looks like a KYB box so maybe old stock someone bought/had?

No, I didn't pretty sure they are knock-off's. The place I ordered them would return them either. lesson learned.

nope they are sitting in the closet. I ended up putting QA1 coil-over's all the way around. But I just bought a GTA and I plan on using them on it.

In this particular case, KYB's part number for the front struts on our cars is 236001. Summit, for example, lists the part number as KYB-236001. They are the same part but have different part numbers because of the different sellers.
Excel-G and GR2 are one and the same. There's absolutely no difference between them except for the color of the coating on the housing. KYB made the decision to make the GR2 series of shocks/struts look more like factory replacements so they changed the shock/strut housing to black and relaunched the product under a new name (Excel-G).

Re: EBay purchase KYB Excel-G strut issues
It is common for retailers/distributors to "create" their own part numbers by adding letters to the manufacturers part numbers to help further define the product. This is done to prevent the occurrence of two different parts (from two different manufacturers) having the same part number in a particular reseller/distributor's computer system, which would cause lots of confusion.
