Front struts
Hello everyone,
I have an 1987 IROC with 110,000 miles and still has the factory front struts. Want to keep the original ride and not tighten it up as I like to Daily drive it. Lookin at Ac/Delco or KYB but have read that you have to change the upper front strut mount for the KYB to fit. I have NOS AcDelco upper mounts and don't want to buy after market upper mounts. Has anyone else had this trouble with KYB?
Thanks for any insight

Re: Front struts
If you are looking for a floaty, original type ride, you should be able to run the KYB GR-2/Excel-G struts. I have them on my 89 with original type strut mounts.

Re: Front struts
Any recommendations for struts somewhere in between stock and track in this day and age, where it seems most somewhat-sporty shocks have been discontinued for the platform?

Re: Front struts
Does the upper strut mount need to be replaced/ does it wear out? I'm getting new struts, and deciding if I need the upper mount.

Re: Front struts
Yes it does wear out.
"Need" is somewhat subjective. Obviously if it has play or binds or whatever, then yes. Otherwise, it's something of a judgment call.

Re: Front struts
If your's looks like the old skanky one here that's no longer centered due to it's rubber deteriorating, yep, they gotta go.
If they look all nice & centered because the rubber hasn't collapsed like in the other pic, and they turn freely with no play, whether or not they are all shiny, then they can stay....
