Yeah, I know this is the TBI board, and yeah, I know I don't have TBI. Bear with me...

I converted my 84 sport coupe over to a serpentine setup, using parts from a 1990 TBI firebird, and now my dual snorkel doesn't fit any more. I can't even bolt the passenger's side scoop in place because the A/C lines are in the way. I searched a bit and didn't find any TBI cars that had the dual snorkel with AC. Any ideas what can be done about the AC lines? It cleared the compressor when the lines were off.

Of course, the AIR injection divert valve is in the way, but that's only staying long enough to pass emissions.

Don't use that snorkel, just route some other hose under the lines and down under the car to the front air dam or next to the radiator scoop. It won't fit, I've tried it before , not a big deal because the open element was better anyways. I did notice a huge diference in the intake sound with the dual snorkel on and eventually I'd like to put it back on.

i have the dual snorkel, you have to use some ingenuity to route the hose,it basically does an immediate 90* turn downwards into another 90* towards the front of the car under the ac lines and above the stabilizer bar.............i then routed it to, well i cant tell ya that cause it even suprised the guys at airbox.com where i bought the box, he insisted it wouldnt work, i proved him wrong

It's not the hose that's the problem. I haven't even gotten that far. It's the snorkel itself--the A/C lines physically occupy the same space that the scoop needs to go.

The scoop! The part that bolts to the front support and the coolant tank! Dammit, where's my pictures...

You have an L69 HO aircleaner right? Most people gently bend the lines to clear, but I have never seen pics. I just went and looked at my car, I don't see how that would work. Maybe you could trim the end of the scoop shorter and route the hose under the lines. Doesn't sound fun anyway you look at it.

I took my good ol mitre saw and cut the scoop in half and fipped it over. You will only have worry about coolant tank thats and easy fix at the junkyard or a gatorade bottle.

I've thought about having the lines re-fabbed to fit around the snorkel inlet, but I don't want to crack or crimp that manifold. I have a little bit of play in one of the hoses but not enough to get by. I'm still open for ideas too. I had an open element but I prefer a clean factory looking set up.

I'm actually planning on hitting the yard to see if any other AC lines might be a better fit, myself. Other than that, I have no ideas.

I solved this problem by removing my washer tank and relocating the coolant recovery tank to the driver side. I also used a tank form an '86 which is smaller.

Being an 84, my car already has the smaller coolant tank--doesn't help much.

I think I got it now. That was one of the dual snorkel. The right hose runs right by the a/c hoses. The coolant bottle was moved to the driver side and the washer bottle was removed. Here are tow more.

That's pretty slick. Too bad I need both the coolant reservoir and the washer bottle. For the moment I'm running an open element. I'm hoping the dual snorkel will pass emissions and/or state inspection even with one snorkel missing (after all the thermac still will work since it's in the air cleaner assembly...

I'm also thinking about hacking up a TPI intake to fit an airbox of some sort. Won't be emissions legal of course, because there's no THERMAC, but it will be interesting to see how it works.

I am still going to try and come up with a way to get the dual snorkel to work without removing parts I need. I'm convinced that I need to get AC piping with a different routing to do it--I didn't have time to look when I was in the junkyard this time, I was too busy pulling parts I needed.
