10-30 of your choice. I have always been a quaker state guy myself. But I like Castrol and Valvoline also. Go to walmart and buy a 5 qt. jug of q/s for 12.xx plus tax

Re: What kind of oil should I use?
I dunno. My dad's been a mechanic his whole life and he always used quaker, so it continued on. I mean if he used castrol exclusively that is what I'd use...I have a customer who uses only castrol and has 2 cars that went over 450k miles. But quaker is the cheapest of castrol, valvoline, and quaker. cheaper as in price wise. I like the oil, thier is no absolute reason.

That sounds awesome. Though i have to weigh what is best for my car and what is affordable. Which sucks.

what brand oil you prefer , is like asking what kind of underwear you prefer (i prefer fruit of the loom boxers) . for a daily driver most any off the shelf brand is o.k. . people often sneer at house brands . does anyone really think that advance , auto zone , etc. have their own oil refineries ? my car is a true daily driver , and i use a 50/50 mix of synthetic & dino oil . just change oil & filter often . good luck .

pour some q/s out and pour the house brands out, the house brands look thinner and way more golden. thier is a difference. they are refined at one of those big places. they look similar to 76 oil IMO which is very thin, watery, and very clear with a golden tint to it

Re: What kind of oil should I use?
ive been changing my oil every 3000-5000km from the begining of time. change it often and make sure its clean if your parking it for a long time. i use 5w30 usually quaker state. 200,000kms on the motor and dont have to top it up between changes.
About synthetic oil. ive considered it but dont want my motor to start leaking. at the moment it has "sweat around, rear main, rear intake)
the answer is check it often and keep it clean. i dont really think it matters as much which brand.
on the other hand when i building a new motor with new seals ill be using full synthetic.

synthetic oil leaks easier. I say if your engine already has over 50k on it, dont switch. If its under that then it's okay to switch.

Re: What kind of oil should I use?
you can use any name brand oil and change it regularly and it will work. it is all a matter of preference. i have seen all kinds of oil do wierd things as a mechanic. i prefer penzoil and always have. never a problem with it when properly changed. i feel it is the same for all oils. put a name brand filter and oil in it of your preference and change it regularly and it will work out.

Re: What kind of oil should I use?
im just getting a few things together to park my car for winter storage.
I went oil shopping yesterday, im making the switch to full synthetic (moble1 10w/30) i know i said above that i just use the regular 5w30 conventional but figured this motor might last me 6000kms or 100,000 more kms. I guess will find out if theres any trouth to the matter of using synthetic on older motors.
The car sits alot more then it gets used so once a year oil changes are what ive been doing for the past few years.
