Latley i have been noticing i have pools of oil on my intake manifold. So i thought maybe the valve covers are leaking. Nope i replaced the gaskets and didnt do anything. Im wondering if anyone else might know of another gasket that goes out on the 5.7L TPI motor that would cause this leak. In addition, just recently, i have been getting burning oil smell in the car threw the air vents. The car usually smokes on cold startups then quits, but it never has passed the smell into the car unless i had the windows down or something. Courious if anyone has any pointers at all. I just changed the oil in it and it seems to be smoking less. I went to a thicker oil and used a oil additive. Thanks!!

You sure it is oil and not coolant? Is it on the driver or pasanger side. Check the PCV, that could be sucking alot of oil into the itake.

Intake gaskets may be leaking also.

Where is the oil? Depending on the where we may be able to tell you the why. (ie at the rear of the block, distributor)

Oil can come from your intake bolts as well. It should leave a trail to where its source is.

Im sure its oil, it seems to be pooling up on the top of the intake manifold. Both sides at that. I thought it was the pcv also but i couldnt see anything leaking out from it directly. The oil pools basically run along both side about 2 inches in from the valve covers. Thats why i thought the valve covers were leaking. But since i did those and it still leaks i kinda got stumped. Never torn apart a intake manifold, so are these bolts that could be leaking just need to be tightened or do i need to have the intake manifold gasket replaced?

Is the oil right below where the intake runners attach to the manifold? I just noticed oil there on mine, I have some major blowby happening, and oil is being fed into my plenum via the crankcase breather tube(the one that goes from the passenger side valve cover to the throttle body). I think so much oil has built up in there, when the engine gets hot it is leaking from where the runners bolt to the manifold.

YES, thats where it is. I know ihave blow by on my motor also and that the breather is putting out some oil into the intake manifold itself. Anyone know a way to fix that (aka. quick fix) w/o rebuilting the motor. The breather on it now i belive is just a hose running from the valve cover to just past the throttle body.

Most likely it is coming up around the threads of the manifold mount bolts. Take them out one at a time, clean, coat the threads with Teflon paste sealant, torque, move on to the next one.

Some people direct the hose that goes to the throttle body into some type of container, usually with a lid they can take off and dump out the oil occassionally. I am probably going to do this same thing since I can't afford a rebuild right now, and obviously quite a bit of oil is building up in the plenum for it to be running out on the manifold. Do a search for blowby and you'll probably find some examples, I know I have seen them on here.

Try installing an inline fuel filter in your PCV hose. Vacuum will still be able to draw through it, but the oil and residue wil get caught in the filter, preventing it from entering your intake. I run a clear Spectre filter so i can see when i need to replace it.

This is another idea, and the Spectre filters are inexpensive. But I think most of my oil is coming in through the crankcase breather hose.

I know that this may be just another way to "mask" the problem, but does anyone know if taller valve covers would help. Since the oil would have to travel farther to end up in the crankcase breather hose.
Do they even make tall center bolt valve covers?

Find some valve covers with baffles. The baffle acts as a "splash shield" and prevents the percentage of the oily gunk from getting picked up by the crankcase vent system.

I am using the stock covers with the baffles on them.

The one in the manifold. The one in the TB is the fresh air path. Air should be going into the crankcase in that tube. If you have oil in there there is a problem elsewhere.

I also have this problem, could this cause blue smoke while driving. Its not much but when you press the accelerator i sometimes sends some blue smoke. I can also feel a smell of burnt oil inside the car.
