Any idea of how to get this off. This is on a 98 Silverado 5.7L. Has 80K on it and has never been change. For the life of me with oil and all my might this sucker will not budge. Any clues?

When i worked for a Pontiac Dealer there was a guy there who used a air hammer to nudge the nuts loose on fuel filters all the time.

Try using a rubber mallet to tap the end of the wrench so it will come off.

I don't mean to make you sound stupid, but did you make sure you were applying the forces in the right directions on each wrench? It can be kinda confusing when under there sometimes.

since you can't heat it you can try chilling it. use a can of the "canned air" held upside down to super freeze it and then try to turn the nut. might want to double check that you are turning the fitting the right way, like was said above.

Make sure you have a wrench on each nut, if need be latch up some wrenches or find a tube to put on the end of one.

it WILL NOT MOVE I have soakedit allllllll day long in pen oil. I'm scaredtoo mch force will snapthe nuts off.

Don't be afraid of snapping it off. You can always get a new line if it twists off.

Cool it like ede said, or wrap it in ice, hit it with PB Blaster or Kroil then try to tighten it a tad. If it starts, reverse right away and keep going. Other thing that works at times, take a centerpunch and hit the line's nut on the face (toward the filter). I have seen this done with an air hammer with point as well*. This coupled with the PB or Kroil may allow the oil to get in there. Or a combination of the above.

Can anyone say Antisieze?!?

*This may not mean much however as I have seen a few idiots take a torch and another a welder to the damn things.

I went on a trip to Indianapolis with a feind awhile back and while we were up there the fuel filter got clogged on his 96 Sunfire. He tried to change it and it wouldnt move any eather, he just kept trying to turn it till he twisted his fuel lines, Ended up getting it towed to a shop while we were up there and have the fuel lines replaced. They told him they had to have a special tool to remove the fuel filter.

Special tool? That sounds like a crock, the only special tool you would use is to pop off some of the clips on the fuel lines, but a screw driver does just as fine.

This has the regular 13/16 5/8th wrench ends, or something like that.

Well dont get me wrong when I say this because this is a weird issue in a way..
(and I have been known to cause mass confusion at times..)lol

But you do know that one side of the fuel filter turns one direction to loosen the fuel line and the other side turns the opposite way since the filter is coming from the opposite side.

If your under the truck the left side of the filter (the side of the filter facing the back of the truck) with both wrenches connected the big wrench should stay put while the smaller one turns counter clock wise wich would be up .

and on the front of the filter the big wrench should stay put while you pull down with the small wrench down..
